ok i respect your thoughts i was wondering if that was easy to happen but like you say if its need so much time then we dont have other options.

Following would be pretty quick and dirty solution

1) record a macro with some tool (maybe AutoHotKey Windows Macro Scripting: Review of Best Win32 Automation Keyboard and Mouse Programming Tool)
2) enable restart MP on resume
3) replace restart.vbs script content so that it will just execute the created automation script

Disabling that ATI specific service won't fix the problem for me. Frustrating bug this is

Would be a nice feature if MP had a setting to set the resolution on a fixed size. I don't care about dynamic resizing at all.

Not sure if i have mentioned this, but the work-around is (if you use an iR Remote) is to program a button on the remote to the macro Alt+Enter

My Setup;

Power TV on, MP re-sizes to box, i hit the button on the remote twice - all sorted!

Turning TV off and then back on will loose HDMI signal, turning it off and on again will re-enable video (I hear the hardware sound chime) and then MP is no longer full screen.

Yeah, I don't get this. XBMC works fine, MP shrinks itself to the upper-left corner when I switch to my PC from another source (ie: go from TV to HTPC).

Hitting alt+enter twice does restore it... but that is annoying and unnecessary.

I wonder what XBMC does differently in "full screen mode" vs MP? The fact that it works tells me it's not simply a driver issue like others have suspected..

Very frustrating... XBMC is a decent alternative but this bug is keeping me from using MP 1.1 as my primary media software.

Any ideas?!?

My parents are suffering from the same on their nvidia GT220.
Never seen it on my ATI HD4770 card.

Anyways.
Try this patch.
Haven't tested it here.

MP.exe is built on latest SVN and not RC1, so maybe it works, maybe it doesnt.
Patch file also included for DIY'ers.

open mediaportal.xml @ C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

insert key this key somewhere under the general section:

Look for "<section name="general">"

add:

<entry name="waitonresume">5000</entry>

specify a value in msec.
5 seconds in this case.
