Just installed Windows 8 CP on machine and tried MP1 on it.

Works very well !!! Actually it works better on Windows 8 than on windows 7 so far.

It runs very fast and very smooth. Even when viewing HD channel and going thru EPG windows with video in bottom left corner the flickering is gone.

Only thing that i can't get working is TV server. TVservice won't start and throws a "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it".

Still trying to get TVserver working....
Try the details in this thread relating to hosts file?

Still trying to get TVserver working... i have tried many possibilities and also editing the hosts file but nothing helps.

I believe I'm getting nearer a solution since i also have tried SQLexpress with same error.

Im thinking this is something with the database and port numbers/ip number.

Ill post here when i have more....

OK. My skills to get this working is not good enough. I have tried SQLexpress and get different error.

I simply cannot get the TVservice to start ... Anyone with more luck ?

Firewall is off, hosts file edited, SQLexpress tried, MySQL 5.5 tried, database on other machine tried, I'm running out off ideas.

TVservice will not start. But Mediaportal runs absolutely great and connects fine to other TVserver machine.

Just installed VS 2010 on my Win 8 setup, had an issue installing SP 1 for SQL Express as well. That seems to be a beta issue for MS.

Actually. I have tried that also. No luck with that neither. I don't think that the problem is with the database. My bet is something with the TVservice account and binding to windows.

Maybe a Win8 MediaPortal Metro app needs to be developed. Could be interesting connecting the MP TV Server backend to a Metro Style app.

Actually I think the best sollution would be to create a Metro app that uses MP-Extended. After all ARM computers will most likely be tablets you use "on the move".

Just to clarify, Your problem is to run the actuall TV-server backend right? Not The TV-server "client"?
