Thanks for the quick reply DarkWader (nice nick), but I already have a workaround (as I mentioned- if I rename the thumbs so GroundhogDay.jpg and GroundhogDayL.jpg are the same file).

The issue is the hi-res stuff is there - and available - but doesn't seem to be used by Xface in filmstrip view.

You did make a very good point, in that I hadn't checked other skins (slap on the wrist!) but I have now, and have noticed something interesting. In every other skin's filmstrip view, there's a doubling of the currently selected item, in which the art is hi-res. But for the actual filmstrip itself, the art is low-res.

As Xface doesn't have this 'currently selected' section, preferring to make the strip itself bigger, it seems to have lost the ability to display hi-res art.

Hugely annoying, but apparently not an issue with Xface, as you say DarkWader.

Does anyone who knows the skin engine backwards know if you have a choice over which version of coverart is used for any given icon\big icon\filmstrip control?

Cheers,

Johnny

Personally I would change the code to that before a thumb is choosen the size to be displayed is checked from the xml file. And if let's say horiz. or vert. resolution is more that 100 px hi-res is choosen otherwise low-res.

Just my 2 cents
grubi.

IMHO, it should become the MediaPortal default skin when it's ready.
Agreed! It would acctualy supprise me if it is not. I believe this would give people reviewing mp the WOW-experience that MP deserves!

(Althoug B2 should be included for slower systems)

for those having issues with the quality of the thumbnails in xFace try this:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mp_movie_cover_resizer-t28146.html?t=28146
    It's a Cuprinol fix :)
BACKUP your thumbs directory just in case.
I do as DarkWader does - download the movie images (I use the movie posters)
Point this beuty at the YourMediaPortalDirectory\thumbs\Videos\Title dir - set the % resize (I use 80 - 90 on my plasma)
    Click the resize button
    Done!:)

Anyone fancy having a play with the myNews plugin?
The layout of the news stories is pretty poor in the skin - worse if you actually open a story :(
    Try this feed
    http://feeds.reuters.com/reuters/topNews
Then notice the overlap at the top right where the summaries are displayed...

Just to add to your burgeoning pile Harley ;)

When playing music files with Milkdrop vis enabled, the vis doesnt go into the TVframe, it moves to the upper left corner causing a _very_ buggy looking screen. It happens both in the music playlist screen and in music folders. This does not happen when minimizing music videos and other video files.

The bug does not occur in bluetwo wide. Im currently using the svn of 09.10.07.

    Hi all,

..the problem we have here is not skin related, it is a main problem of mp.
To explain it a little bit more:

The filmstripview is normaly a view, that shows the thumbs in a filmstrip with smal pictures. The selected one is displayed normaly then in one Big thumb.
MP uses for the thumbs in filmstrip the low resolution thumbs and for displaying the selected one the high resolution thumb.
So it works in all skins.
So you have in all skins the low resolution thumbs in the filmstrip, but you have the selected one in a big resolution.
In the xface skin we use only the filmstripview and not the selected Bigiconthumb, because thats the only way to get that view like it is shown in the skin.
Now we need the solution in mp, that mp uses the high resolution thumbs in filmstripview and not only in the selected one.
Thats the Problem, but i will ask the Devs to help, so that the code in mp can be rewritten, so that we have the high resolution thumbs also in filmstripview, like it is in music and pictures. Because the problem appears only in video Filmstripview.

    Greetings Harley

Ahh, thought it was something like that! Thanks for clearing that up Harley. In that case I think Grubi nailed it on the head when he said the version chosen should be display-size based, not control based.

Definitely something for the devs to look at though, because Harley, your way of doing filmstrip is superb, and through hardcoding it results in fuzzy images without manual intervention.

Anyway back to the skin, I've actually noticed a couple more oddities.

    - In filmstrip view (again, sorry!) the zoom-in and zoom-out feature does not work uniformly on the case\cover artwork. When selecting a title (zoom-in), the dvd cover briefly appears outside the frame. When zooming out the reverse happens and there's a gap where the 'dvd case' is too tall. I've attached screenshots.

    - In basic home, the icons revolve round UNDER the previous one. I've attached a screenshot with an arrow indicating the direction of movement.
There are 2 exceptions to this, one is during clockwise rotation the TV goes over the cogs (as it should), and the other is counter-clockwise when the HD camcorder goes over the camera (the attached picture is of clockwise movement).

Not sure if either is skin related either, but thought I should mention them!

    Cheers,

    Johnny

Could this perhaps be related to your gfx card or other hardware?
I noticed a slight difference in how fast the zoom-animations are on my HTPC and my fathers, and they are both with a fresh install with everything the same.
    except the hardware though...

My father is using a much more powerfull gfx, a Nvidia 7950GT against my Nvidia 7300GT.
The zoomanimations were a bit stutterish on my fathers though. For me its smoooth.

Could offcourse also be other hardware, like the CPU. Mine is dualcore, hes are singlecore AMD... (puke)

Xface needs a computer above the "average" that is often used for MediaPortal.
The req system specs that were valid a year ago, is not truly correct anymore.
