Excellent, refresh rate did the job. Flat lines everywhere now.
Also had to turn off the processing on the Sony tv as initially I had flat lines with stuttering from tv that wasn't there before I'd turned on the dynamic refresh rate. It's also half sorted most of the 1080 mkv issues - now all I get is some out of sync sound, which seems to have plenty of posts to read through.

That Foxconn looks quite good - but it's a bit big, don't you think? Heh heh.
It looks similar to the other zotac e350 - the ad02.

And no, I haven't seen any e450 ones yet either. Zotac said they were doing both but I didn't want to wait.
Maybe that's the one for the living room.

I guess the AD02 and the Foxxconn are quite similar. Not bothered about the size - they will be attached to the back of a 40" TV, so as long as they arent wider/higher than it!

Congratulations on your new AD10 - I have been looking on AD02 for a while, but this has drawn my attetion to AD10.

Have some questions you hopefully can help out resolve.

-Can you Power On/Off the AD10 with the remote?
-How many seconds does it take from a clean power on to a working MePo?
-Anything you have not been able to playback? Bluray, MKV or Flash HD?
-Does the Wireless network adapter support WoWLAN?(Wake on Wireless Lan).

You can check it by opening Device Manager - Right Click on your Wireless adapter - Click Power management pane - Is "Allow this device to wake up computer" available as an checkbox option?

Will be great to use AD10 with USB tuner, that you can wake and stream to Mobilephone or other PC when on vacation or friends house.

I need to get back to you on most of this.

Remote is IR. there is an inbuilt receiver and a USB one included.

I haven't got any buttons to work other than just arrows/ok plus 'clear' - which is acting as 'back'. Haven't done much work to fix this yet.

Haven't tried any type of wol yet. I am using the Ethernet port but I'll try both for you.

Time to boot - pretty quick with ssd. But the wife is watching at the moment so I can't play!

I have bd folder structures and bluray mkvs. Neither work yet but the processor isn't struggling while trying. I think it's refresh rate or codec issue. Obviously this is a biggy and one I will definitely report back on.

Sorry for the lack of answers. Not enough playtime yet.
    Ben

Oh dear. Zotac support have just told me that there is no WOL on this bios. Only through the USB2 ports at the moment, ie for the IR. So I guess if i can get the remote working it'll turn on but outside of that no support for the wireless or ethernet cards...

    hey there,

while i kept reading and reading, i finally made my choice to get a zotac nano

    thanks for all the testing/reporting.
if you talk about an "bluray mkv" issue, do you mean a bluray 1080p rip in a mkv containerfile? and if so, at what compression? ~4gb, ~8gb, ~25gb?
or do you mean the pure "folder structure + raw files" rip?

maybe some of you could share their thoughts about the latest zotac nano news:
now i'm just curious, if i should get:

    zotac nano AD10
    - CPU: 1,6gh E-350 CPU
    - GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6310 --> shared memory
    - LAN: 10/100/1000 (GBit-LAN)
    - cool short overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gf5JouhSOg

or the announced (little cheaper) zotac nano VD01
    - CPU: 1,2ghz VIA Nano X2 U4025 CPU
    - GPU: VIA Chrome9 HCM --> onboard memory (dont know how many)
    - LAN: 10/100/1000 (GBit-LAN), Wireless LAN, Bluetooth
    - cool short overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IYPYIxBat8

or if i should wait for a nano version with the E-450

i read some cpu benchmarks and it seems that the VIA CPU is actually faster, than the E-350
PassMark - AMD E-350 - Price performance comparison
PassMark - [Dual CPU] VIA Nano X2 U4025 @ 1.2 GHz - Price performance comparison
but maybe i got that all wrong

again, its a pleasure to read this forum :)

I mean remuxed from a bluray, with all audio and video kept, including truehd, so same (ish) size as the original.
As yet I have not tried removing different audio/subs and haven't tried any other formats with large files, so I cannot say that it is not the APU. However, there are several reviews stating that the E350 can cope with full bluray so I still believe it is a format/codec issue for me, I just haven't had enough time to work it out properly.

As for the different CPU/GPUs, I think you might also like to find some reviews that include GPU performance . My impression was that the AMD grpahics performance was better, so the overall package is better for HTPCs as a result, assuming using hardware acceleration.

No idea how long the wait would be for the E450 version - it's hard enough finding the E350 at the moment.

and in order to get wlan up and running at your zotac, you could just install an antenna, right? as there seems to be the right connector on the back

would be perfect, if you could use wlan and the zotac nano to open 1080p / 20gb files from your server. but getting 25 mbit through walls wont be for sure

It comes with the Wifi antenna in the box. I haven't installed it yet.
So far I haven't managed to stream any larger video files like that over wifi. It always seems to be almost fast enough but not quite.

    Hi there,

The size of the file is not the issue, there are normally two main things that cripple playback:

Bandwidth of the video and audio streams - such that there is either too much data for the LAN to consistently supply or for the client to process
Video processing (Interlacing/upscaling/etc) - you are asking the client to do too much processing (hopefully it is all done by the GPU which should cope)

    J.

ps - Will be intersting to see how good the WLAN is ;)

Its the GPU that makes the E-350 machines so good for video. I do not know how well the VIA GPU holds up. The CPU isnt so important, the GPU needs to be doing all the work.
