    Hi,

Maybe hearing is too sensitive ;)

An update - I cannot recommend the WindBox based on one thing - noise! Mine has a poor fan which is noisy, and the case amplifies the noise

I will however keep the PC, and am just going to modify it with a nice big passive heatsink. This will however mean the heatsink will stick out of the case! :)
But nobody can see it behind the TV.

Other than the poor fan, the machine is great, much faster than I imagined
Did you do it? This is what it now looks like in my head...

    Nearly fanless then ;)

    J.

The big heatsink/fanless idea didnt work out! So spliced a few wires and stuck the fan on the side.
The fan has its own temperature sensor, and works really well!

If only a decent fan was there in the first place - would have saved me all this trouble (drilling the metal case was not easy!)

    Close enough:

    Its now completely silent ;)

I then removed the stand and velcro'd the machine to the back of the TV. Problem sorted!

Are you willing to explain in detail how you did this?
Details about what steps you took, parts used etc. are more than welcome.
I have the same problem with my windbox and lost all hope that MSI will come up with a fix or solution for the noise problem.

I know of some other people that have the same problem and would me most thankfull for this information.

    nyhardcore,

He fitted a large external fan to his case (see above) - so not actually silent.

I assume with the velcro he used was sticky-back based velcro...some stuck to the HTPC, some stuck to the TV

    Yup.

I bought an external fan, then had to cut the wires on the existing fan (as the connector is non standard). Then connect the wires to the new fan.
I then drilled a hole in the side of the case and bolted the fan on.

Not 100% silent, but the fan is so quiet that it may as well be.

I wouldnt recomend the mod - was a right pain! If you want more detailed info, let me know!
