Should I completely empty the cache (ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Cache) folder and does this set of files also contain the definition for the darker skin?

Just delete the Default folder inside that cache folder.
And no - the ZIP does NOT contain the changed darkened Backgrounds.
Just copy all png´s from ...\Default Wide\Media\ except preview.png into ...\Default\Media folder.
This way you get all actualized GFX.
Please note: You don´t have to copy the content of the subfolders of ...\Default Wide\Media\

May it be possible to integrate the short cutter plugin in the final version??

I'm experiencing the oposite
worked fine in 1.2 beta
now i crash switching from weak channel to a strong one
i must kill the app in client and server then reboot server otherwise the tvservice does not work

rolling back to 1.2 beta does not fix the issue

If you want to help to get it fixed, file a proper bugreport.

Also it is probably not a regression in RC since even rollback to beta wont help. Probably something outside the MediaPortal has changed.

Extensions that worked with beta, work with RC.
To get compatible versions, just look inside the extensions section of the forum where you can find testbuilds.

With the release of 1.2.0 final, you will find compatible extensions in the websites repository.

We will not add anything for 1.2.0. at this late state of development.

Hi Guys

Can anyone confirm the version of TV Server? MP is definitly 1.2.0 but i remember seeing tv server as being 1.1.8 or something like that. I did a clean install installation, but didnt manually stop TV server. All channels and settings were in tact after the 'clean install' option.

It seems to be working fine and channel changing is that fastest i have ever seen it and i have been using it for around 8 years! Just wanted to check the version..
