Get divorced and then you can spend as much time as you like.
The downsides are No money to upgrade your htpc.
As this is the most expensive answer you could receive, I would seriously consider high's option for a fraction of the above cost.

zion22 - Stay up late working on it while they are sleeping! Make sure you save the existing folder so you can re-install incase you booger (technical term - I'd be surprised if you didn't know what it meant) it up! I did that working on a project that I loved a few years back while trying to keep sanity in the house. But I was killing myself by only getting two hours of sleep. Needless to say it didn't last very long.

sounds to me like a good reason/excuse to get another HTPC going in the bedroom, study, garage, toolshed or toilet...

Schedule downtime outside of normal operating hours

otherwise a second HTPC that can be hotswapped and imaged.
