    Agreed on all points.

Actually, using Aeon we don't "lose" any aspect of the skin because it doesnt have any reflections. To tell you the truth, It never really bothered me that much. When the 790g comes out, I will probably relegate this htpc to my sons room and build a new one for me :)

bloody hell. I just bought an HD2400 Pro, 512mb, AGP to salvage my AMD xp2800+. the kicker, quicktime HD trailers from apple/yahoo stutter like hell...even at 720p. CPU utilization = 100%. GPU = 0%. apparently, there are issues getting hardware acceleration to work. No more ATI products for me. and from the looks of things, AMD is no longer reasonably priced for performance either. Sigh, so much for competition.

MP crashes during initialization. I can't even see what the error is. Something about switching to rasterization, direct3d, GPU not good enough. blah blah. the 2 errors come as MP is starting up, and pop underneath the translucent MP initialization window, so you could make out a little bit of it, but not all of it.

I'm going to return this ATI GPU and exchange for a similar nvidia card :(

PS-this card was supposed to replace an ATI 9250 128mb, which is another piece of worthless rubbish. Can't get stable desktop image on a 24" monitor :( for basic uses...!!

    1. This does only apply for the AGP version.
    2. Especially at the "reasonably priced" performance sector ATI's 48x0 is unbeatable
    3. An Nvidia card won't improve your current configuration issues at all.

Currently I wouldnt recomend any single ATI card to any user mainly for two reasons.

    1) If upgrading to Vista -> 0001192: Flickering Tv-guide and other overlays with EVR enabled - MediaPortal Bugtracker (Most likely an issue that remains unsolved).
    2) At least 3450 driver quality on Vista has been a joke. Until 8.7 beta drivers every single Catalyst release has been crashing on basic desktop usage few times per every day. With 8.7 beta the crash frequency has dropped to 1/10th.

Sorry, just a very quick post to say that i see this "switching to rasterization blah blah" message now every time i resume (My TV module) from standby EVER SINCE installing the latest MP 1.0.0.0 RC2 two days ago. Anyone know why RC2 might generate this error when RC1 plus ALL other installations previous to this didn't (with my AGP graphics card).

Just to let all know, I built a second HTPC over the weekend and instead of buying the Asus M2A VM_HDMI, changed to the GigaByte GA MA78GM-S2H. All I can say is what a sweet board. Does everything I need here in Australia (all content SD&HD is MPEG2 stream) and HD is at max 30% cpu compared to my old machine (listed in my system). Also noted that the new board works without DXVA issues with PowerDVD 8 codec and can with both SD and HD without black screen. Also, running XP Sp3 and reflections are back without any lockups.....sweet.

What ATI driver version are you running?

the CCC Version is 2008.0318.2139.36886 (Assume 8.3)
ATI Video card driver is 8.475.0.0 date 18/3/2008.

Since I had installed 4GB Ram, I upped the UAC to max (512MB).
