The issue is within madvr and the way it handles frames, I started thinking which madvr settings might have a strong effect on the problem, so I went ahead and tweaked a couple of settings within madvr until I found this one:
If I disable "Present Several Frames In Advance" then my leds are working exactly as if I was using EVR.
So somehow forcing madvr into presenting several frames in advance is triggering the issue, if I had to guess the timming is getting off.
Now lets hope this setting wont create new issues somewhere else...
P.S.
While taking a look at my windows event viewer I noticed I am getting lots of these:
Faulting application name: AtmoWinA.exe, version: 1.0.0.9, time stamp: 0x5754079d
Faulting module name: AtmoWinA.exe, version: 1.0.0.9, time stamp: 0x5754079d
This one pops up every now and then in the middle of my screen when I start watching a video or when I stop watching it, I remember I had this one on windows 7 as well.
Awesome, best guess is that its madVR is caching them as fast as it can but doesn't have a fixed order / timing.
Although with my HTPC setup (GTX1080 + I7) I can't reproduce it yet.
AtmoWinA looks like hard crash which could be system load related or that AtmoLight is sending invalid data as I'm not sure how well AtmoWin handles that tbh, Ligjhtning used to maintain it so knows more about it.
Any corresponding Mediaportal error logs that show something during those crashes?
Do suggest to most especially on new setups to go with Hyperion, it's a bit more work to setup but in the end you get something that is well maintained and future ready
I also noticed that I never get the error during playback but get it very often during a movie stop.
So something from AtmoLight side is triggering the AtmoWin crash.
I got no idea what this one does:
[2017-03-16 22:34:50,065] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: Deactivation request received
[2017-03-16 22:34:50,220] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: Activation request received
There isn't much on the to do list, will be pushing out a new stable version though that supports only Mediaportal 1.16 because of madVR changes.
AtmoWin bugfixes are on there as well but hard to trace and lack of time.
If you could reply to my previous question can check to see if that is possible
