I can live without the Remote and find a way to get it working myself..The bigger issue is QAM - support for the FusionHDTV gold card T5.
I can't even use the card at the moment.

Im not a programmer, (Very technical though), but would help in any way I could.

Thanks

Taken from IRC chat this morning:

(10:38:34) (@dman_LFC) atsc is only supported over the air atm not cable btw
((10:39:06) (Dark`-`) dman_LFC: i didn't know that, maybe I am able to view it then
((10:40:08) (@dman_LFC) Dark`-`, it's a M$ restriction coz we use their network provider from the BDA stack

MP does not support QAM. At this point it is unknown if it ever will. The MyHD software and Fusion software are the only options you have as far as I know.

    So, are you saying that
MYHD software should work with FusionHD Gold T5 card?

What is the best HD card that is supported with MediaPortal using CAble? HD QAM? Any?

MyHD software only works with MyHD cards. I don't think there is any windows front end software that supports QAM tuning. Just forget about QAM tuning. It's only good for local HD channels in most cases and those are available OTA anyways. There is NO good solution for digital cable on the HTPC right now. Sad but true.

For analog cable you can use any analog card (NTSC). All of the hardware PVR cards etc work for analog cable (Hauppage, Avermedia, etc), and they work well.

Software cards are shady/problematic. If you are trying to use a Fusion 5 Gold for Analog cable, this is not an ideal solution, since it is a software card.

Sorry about my newb' ness to Tuner card technology.

What I want is, to watch HD channels and regular Channels on Analog cable. (Timewarner - Austin) Pref. using MP.

    Im using a 3Ghz machine.

I will replace my Fusion HD T5 card with something that works better for my needs. I just thought this was the best one to get. (Im not happy with their lack of support- remote also)

Any suggestions? I noticed you use the USB version of Fusion.

No worries about your "nubness". LOL, it wasn't long ago that I was super confused too (heh, I still am).

In any case. The only way to view HD in the USA is with a digital card, i.e. (ATSC). Unfortunately the only way to get that for most people on their computer/HTPC is with an Antenna for Over-The-Air channels. The Fusion software will tune unencrypted QAM64, which is nice, but the law only requires cable companies to provide local stations in an unencrytped format. At this point, some people get lucky and can tune a lot of channels with QAM64, but certainly none of them can get the Premium Channels (like HBO, Skinemax). IMHO, it is only a matter of time before all cable companies get their act together and encrypt everything but what the law requires them to.

The Fusion 5 card is a great card ( I have a Fusion 5 Lite, PCI version). You can run your cablebox through the analog input (Svideo) and use MP to view it that way. I believe you have to use a sort of plugin to get guide data and remote zapping data for it...I'm not sure becasue I've never captured video that way. Your computer is powerfulenought to use a software based solution, so you might want to try to use the NTSC (Analog) software tuner before picking up another card. I have heard that the tuner is not that good, but if you can pull a good signal, it would probably be fine.

If you have straight analog cable, you can get a hardware PVR card like the Hauppage 150, Avermedia MCE 150 or whatever and use MP to control it. This solution works very well. You could get 2 cards or a dual tuner card (Hauppage 500) so you could watch one while recording the other, or record 2 channels at once.

    Howdy

    Heya,

I got the remote working now. It started working when I put the FusionHDTV5 RT Gold in a different PCI slot.
    Go figure...
Turns out, it wasnt working with any apps. (Sorry sweet MP) ;-)

Is there anything I can do to help support NTSC and HD cable support?

There was a mention of installing an app to abstract cable information.
Since I want to use Time Warner Cable (Austin Tx) with this card, please let me know how I can help with support.

    Hello,

Newbie MP user here, so please forgive me in advance :)

I'm running the latest 0.2.0.3 version and am having trouble getting it autotune with my VBox USB-A 3560. No channels ever show up. And, if I say OK and close autotune and editing the card, and attempt to edit the same card again I get the dreaded "Unable to create graph for this device!!!" error.

The Vbox USB-A 3560 is also running the latest drivers (2.1.705.7) from their site.

In the mediaportal.log I see stuff like this after autotuning. The FAILED parts do not look good to me :)
