I was about to consider putting vista 64 on my htpc ... still using XP.
But I guess this will put me off, hehe.

Maybe the issue lies burried in : EVRCustomePresenter.cpp (dshowhelper.dll)

    UINT CALLBACK SchedulerThread(void* param)

//wait for a maximum of 20 ms (less than one frame when frame rate is 50fps)
    #define MAX_WAIT (20)

    Otherwise I have no idea.

It seems to be happening in the first second of the movie. In all frequencies the video seems to speed up in the first or two seconds to get in sync with the sound. in 24hz this does NOT happen.

Installed a clean copy of vista home prem. x64 sp1.

So far I was unable to reproduce what you guys describe.

setting RR to 24hz (using dynamic refreshrate changer/internal method), playing any random 23.976 mkv/avi file.
    all is in synch.

    important settings:
    (ati 3600 card) + 9.2 drivers
    ffdaudio decoder
    ffdvideo decoder
    evr

I am running almost the exact same setup except I have a ATI 4350. Other then that everything else is the same but I do have the problem. I thought I might have fixed it by disabling subtitles but that is not the case. Some items dont have the problem and others are un-watchable.

Well, I have put an Nvidia 9400GT in my system (for 50 euro's) to replace the onboard HD3200 from ATI. All problems I had with MKV files and the 24hz issue are solved for me.... That was a nice investment concerning all the time I have spend on MP the last couple of months.

I tend to agree with you folks here.

Seems like some files have issues while others haven't.

Most of the time when I pause and resume it ..then the AV is out of synch. This happens on all files for me.
Doing a skip-step will often fix it. If not I have to restart playback.

EDIT; try using display changer when using the automatic refreshrate changer, instead of using the internal method.
A quick test here seems to sort it out for me ... have to do some more tests.

I had same problems with my setup and narrowed it down to spdif output. I never got it to work in sync as you, not on all files, but as a workaround I setup ffdshow audio to reencode everything to dolbydigital and output via spdif and all is fine an all files! Maybe some of you can try it and see if it helps?
