I don't think the problem has anything to do with the actual refresh rate change. Maybe it's caused by frames arriving to late.
But I will create a new thread.
Thanks

Well, you can easialy check that by exiting MP, changing the refresh rate manually and then using MP to play the video.

Not really, as this behavior only happens when loading two files with diffrent frame rates after each other. I have tested to manually switch the refresh rate before starting MediaPortal. And then there is no problem.

Please take a look at this thread for more information on this problem.
It's the one last showstopper with MediaPortal video playback I think.

Everything else works like a charm (if you choose the right combination of codecs)

(1): The EVR presenter doesn't get a single frame form the mixer. Might be related to repaint frame requests (my current working assumption) of a frame the presenter never received. I couldn't reproduce it yet on demand, so it's hard to locate the exact source. But I came across this as well a few times before I started to work on the EVR presenter.

(2): In the evr.log the fps for 23.976fps for 11:14 is properly detected. I assume your external command for changing the refresh rate worked properly. I haven't come across this problem yet. I'll try to reproduce as you described it. This seems to be another defect as well.

Thanks for pointing out this two issues. Best is if these issues are discussed in their own thread. Once I find something out, I'll comment on your new thread.

    Thanks for looking into it!

    (1) I have not been able to bring this problem on demand. It just happens from time to time.

    (2) This one is easy to provoke on demand. And the "fix" (interact with another window) does ALWAYS work.
Yes, the refresh rate change is working. I get the correct refresh rate for both 23.976fps (23.976Hz/23.972Hz depending on driver version) and 59.94fps (59.94Hz). But the stutter is there until I interact with another application or explorer window.

The stutter s not similar to stutter encountered when running a non 1:1 refresh rate. This does not look like that at all. More like a starving frame rate (like 10-15fps)

just an notice to the last problem (2) - I know, that if MP is not the top window, it lowers the frame rate of the GUI so the system is not much loaded. I also experienced, that when I paused a video for a long time, I have also seen the effect of the low frame rate. Maybe this helps.

Thanks, but that's not related to this problem.

Will this "fix" improve the playback of files plying back at 50 or 60Hz, or is it just for 24p mode?

Reason I'm asking is because I have had issues with dropped frames for the last 6 months, running my LCD at 60Hz all the time.

It will improve the playback quality on all refresh rates (and source material fps). The issue was just really bad when it did come to 1:1 fps and display hz (24 fps on 24Hz, or anything similar).
