Re: AW: Re: Automatic Refreshrate Changer

So am I correct if I see your settings like this:
-you start Mp in 720p resolution.
-most arc changes are 720x.. as well
-when watching ntsc hd you switch to a 1080 resolution?
regards
Maybe you are only using the wrong name in your writing here, but are you only switching refresh rate or resolution as well? resolution changes should be avoided.
I have set resolution only for testing to 1080i, have disabled ARC and then NTSC HD is working fine, no dropped frames and the colours are fine!

    Hi Ed!

    No, my Standard Resolution is 1080p/50Hz, so all ARC changes are 1080p related! For watching NTSC HD the best quality is a 1080i -setting, but how is it possible to configure ARC to set resolution to 1080 interlaced?

    [EDIT] Have upload a 2 min sample -> Link

    Did anyone figure out how to fix this issue? Disabling automatic refresh rate changer cures it completely :(

    Hi Helios,

    I downloaded the file and tested it. All good here.
    See screenshot.

    You can see MP sees the file as 59.94 fps media. The refreshrate is set (by arc) to 59.94 automatically.
    By the way. I use SAF5 latest. and disabled all crop/resize settings. I also use the newest MP audiorenderer from the development section and dshowhelper v67 now.

    Hi Guys,

    Firstly - I *love* this feature - it's one of the killer MP features IMHO.

    That said, I'm having a problem with it on my new 3D setup.

    I have an Asrock Vision 3D (which is awesome) and it has an nvidia GT425M video card. I've also got a Samsung 3DTV so I've set up the nvidia configuration to use stereoscopic 3D and it enables/disables perfectly through PowerDVD which is great.

    The only problem is whenever I watch a video file that changes the refresh rate through Automatic Refreshrate Changer in MP it turns on 3D mode in the TV (regardless of whether the video file is 2D or 3D).

    Which is a massive bummer :( right now the only options I have are to either disable refresh rate changer or disable the stereoscopic setup in nvidia - which are both a bummer.

    Does anyone have any ideas why the refreshrate changer is turning 3D mode on?

    Here's the part of the log that I can see:

    2011-03-12 11:19:55.050598 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.AdaptRefreshRate: framerate on file \\172.31.1.1\video\movies\General\American Gangster Extended Edition 720p BluRay DTS x264 DBO\American.Gangster.Extended.Edition.720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-DBO.mkv is 23.976
    2011-03-12 11:19:55.053598 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.SetRefreshRateBasedOnFPS: current refreshrate is 50hz - changing it to 24hz
    2011-03-12 11:19:55.053598 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.SetRefreshRateBasedOnFPS: using internal win32 method for changing refreshrate. current is 50hz, desired is 24

    (full log for starting movie attached)

    Any other logs I can upload to help?

    Thanks very much :)

    Some improvement to get:

    I've two monitor with an Ati HD 5770 but automatic refreshrate changer get information and set refresh rate always on the first one even if that one displayed in general->start screen at first position is not the primary screen but is switched temporary as secondary one.

    so:

    1) I've a monitor and a tv.
    in general->start screen are displayed as

    Monitor Plug and play (1440x900) on Ati Radeon HD 3800
    Monitor Plug and play (1280x720) on Ati Radeon HD 3800
    (it's an error in media portal I guess because I had a 3800 but now I've 5770 , I don't understand where these informations are stored and why MP configuration don't refresh that data)

    2) automatic refreshrate changer get informations always about the first monitor on the list. It don't care if it's the primary one or a secondary one.

    for example I set that monitor to 60 HZ , play a cinema a set ARC to set 75 HZ.

    2011-03-17 11:46:11.990763 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.AdaptRefreshRate: framerate on file D:\Media\SerieTV\Bones\Bones S06E13 720p WEB-DL DD5.1 H264-NFHD.mkv is 23,976
    2011-03-17 11:46:11.994763 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.SetRefreshRateBasedOnFPS: current refreshrate is 60hz - changing it to 75hz

    it work fine. the first monitor on the screen selector list was the primary monitor in this case

    3) another test. I switch the primary and secondary monitor by Catalyst (but I switch always when I star MP during LM remote keymap star script) . ARC test fine the primary monitor (I know because action script works but I don't like it) but it set rates on the first monitor on MP screen selector list not the primary one that become the secondary during this test.

    My opinion is ARC should work always on primary monitor (get and set) or even better let us to select the monitor to use in its settings screen. :D

    AW: Automatic Refreshrate Changer

    in the settings of windows7, i can choose 30hz mit zeilensprung. if i do so, i get ntsc on my tv.
    the tv shows then in the osd "1080i60hz). so this i need for playback ntsc-2970-files and my tv is able to do it.
    but, if i set this (30hz) in freshratechanger for 29,97frames-ntsc-playback, then it changes my tv to 1080p/60. thats total wrong. so what i must type in framrate setting for ntsc tab, that it changes the framrate to interlaced! and not progressive?
    thanks in advange.

    greetings

    Re: AW: Automatic Refreshrate Changer

    so what i must type in framrate setting for ntsc tab...

    23 = 23,976
    24 = 24
    29 = 29,97
    30 = 30
    59 = 59,94
    60 = 60

    So for NTSC you fill in 59 (29,97 x2 == 59,94 == 59Hz)

    AW: Automatic Refreshrate Changer

    thanks for answering Homey,
    but i think the problem is deeper in my case.

    my tv has an osd. its getting everytime active if the resolution, refreshrate or color (pal/ntsc), is changed, and shwoing that.
    in windows 7, i have 3 resolutions with "zeilensprung": 25,29 and 30 hz.
    so far if i understund this right, "zeilensprung" means interlaced. if change now the resolution under windows for example from 50hz without zeilensprung (pal) to 30hz with zeielnsprung (ntsc), the osd of my tv shows me, 60hz and the i letter for interlaced.
    if i give this 30hz to the the refreshrate changer, then the osd of my tv shows me also that the tv changed to 60hz but without the i letter for interlaced. also if i set refreshrate changer to 59hz. everytime the refreshrate is changed to 60 hz, but without the i letter!
    so there are two reasons:
    - maybe the osd of the tv is wrong and 60hz is everytime interlaced but the osd dosn t show me the i letter.
    - its not interlaced and the osd is correct.

    so far i know, my tv can also display 30, 50 and 60hz with pal, also not interlaced.
    so i think, there is a difference, if i change the refreshrate directly under windows to 30hz, wich gives me 60 interlaced, or if the refreshrate changer, changes the resolution.
    it seems that the refreshrate changer can not distinguish bewteen interlaced and pal refreshrates like windows does, if i change the refreshrate directly there!
    i don t found a way to tell refreshrate changer to change refreshrate to interlaced!
    i only can give for example 30, or 59, but it looks like, that the refreshrate changer is allways setting te refreshrate to pal and not to ntsc, if the osd of my tv shwos that right.
    what i need is a way to tell the refreshrate changer, that it set the refreshrate to interlaced/ntsc!!!!.
    i tried it with 30i or 59i, but refreshrater changer is not acepting that.
    thats my problem and i duno how i can solve it.
    i think the problem is the way, how refreshrate changer changes the refreshrate and that it can t distinguish between pal and ntsc refreshrates.

    greetings
