Best Videocard for DVXA? (1 Viewer)

Which video card will give me dxva in Media portal under Windows XP? Any Sucess Stories Out There.. Feel free to also put the codec your using?

In my experience no videocard plays all mkv's out there. You're better off getting a quad core cpu and a good software decoder like coreavc.

I know that the L4.1 encodes do best with DVXA and that's what I have the most of so DVXA would be ideal. Any suggestions or experiences are helpful.

@dapun: The UVD of the Radeon HDs is supposed to perform better than the GeForce counterparts. Any Radeon HD card will do (except the 2900). So any passive cooled Radeon HD 3450 will probably a good choice for a HTPC.
Regarding codecs you don't have much choice either. Currently only these codecs support hardware accelerated high definition decoding:

• Arcsoft Total Media
• Nero 7/8
• PowerDVD 7/8
• WinDVD 9

As far as I know, you can't use the Arcsoft codec outside of its software. Same goes with the WinDVD 9 codec, you can only use it for decoding HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays within the WinDVD 9 player.

They seem to praise it in the AVSForums?

Nothing wrong with the 3650 either, should also give some decent gaming performance . Passive cooling for those cards is more difficult though: PCIe Preisvergleich bei Geizhals.at Österreich.
But for decoding purposes it shouldn't matter if it's a Radeon HD 3200 (from the AMD 780g chipset for example), a 3450, 3650 or 3750.

I don't know if it matters to you, but the Radeon HD 2400 has a maximum power consumption of 25 W. According to some tests they only consume 11 W in idle and 16.8 W in full load.

got a hd 3450 myself. Passive cooled. Very happy with it. Only thing still is the hardware support DXVA.. not 100% ok still for instance with subtitles etc.
