I'm currently using srt23Dass to convert .srt subtitles to stereoscopic 3D .ass subtitles. It means that you can play SBS/OU movies with DXVA in MediaPortal however the MediaPortal GUI is chopped as you described. I haven't tried MP3D yet but it sure is interesting if it can convert the MediaPortal GUI to stereoscopic view.

In a perfect world, your TV gets a miracle message that it should switch to 3d viewing automatically.

The world is already perfect with EventGhostPlus ;) EventGhost can set your TV to 3D mode by RS232 or IR when the 3D SBS or OU movie starts playing and return it to normal mode when it stops. Forum thread if you like to discuss it further.

    I will give srt23Dass a try.

No, not perfect. My TV doesn't have a discrete IR 3D SBS command (and also no discrete on/off IR command), but only some keypresses in a certain order to end up with 3d SBS.
Even then it is not foolproof because the order is not always the same, it depends on the TV.
Also, IR blasting requires an ugly black blaster sticking on the television to be reliable. Even then IR blasting has several other downsides. I've been that route and eventually ended up buying an USB CEC adapter :) much more reliable and faster, and also invisible because it is HDMI driven.
offtopic: Now I have to buy a HDMI enabled sound system :)
I used IRSS + translator for IR blasting but I am currently looking at eventghost for controling my CEC device. Too bad there is not a plugin available yet for it (pulse eight adapter)

You can get that funcionality manually with IRSS which let you map special remote keys on your (MCE) remote and blast them to your TV.
I think this will also be supported with the CEC-remote plugin in the future which is much more elegant because of several technical and aesthetic reasons

Well, off topic, I've managed to switch my Samsung TV's 3d mode on/off via WiFi which is much nicer!
But there should be some research for other TVs as well. Samsung is implementing a custom UpNP device. I'm currently playing around with upnp and dlna, I hope i find some time for this too

Did you already investigated CEC? I think that protocol was designed to do all this.

Yeah, but it requires custom hardware :(
Also, I believe that the cec-remote plugin can send start/stop 3d-mode messages to MP3D. Its normal MP messages.

Also does a MCE receiver/blaster and the rest of your HTPC(s) does!
I bought a pulse eight cec usb device for 40 euro. Not cheap, but it is price worthy.
Although rcaware cec device already have a nice eventghost plugin available for it, it is more expensive and needs an extra HDMI port from the TV and more cabling (because it does not pass-through HDMI like the pulse eight device)

Also, I believe that the cec-remote plugin can send start/stop 3d-mode messages to MP3D. Its normal MP messages.
So it would be a winner combo! :)

yes, and a 3d tv is also custom hardware. but I am talking about investing in something more generic. 3d tvs usually are smart-tvs with network access.

    Off-topic:
So how does it work? You connect the hdmi-TV to the pc-usb via the pulse8? And an other hdmi cable for the video/audio?
Or does it have 1 hdmi->usb connection, so it sends video/audio via usb :cautious: ?

    Can I use this plugin with MediaPortal 1.3 Beta to watch a 3D Blu-ray? (a real 3D Blu-ray, NOT (!) a MKV file!)

In my opinion a MCE receiver/blaster is just as "generic"

It depends which device you buy. For the two that I know it is already differently implemented.

    Pulse Eight:
    1 HDMI in
    1 HDMI out (passthrough)
1 Mini USB connector, which is used to add/read the CEC signals to/from HDMI
This device you can locate close to your HTPC with only one HDMI cable running to the TV

    RCaware:
    1 HDMI in
    1 USB in/out
This device is ment to be connected to another HDMI port on your TV (I suppose, I think it doesn't really care which HDMI device)
Then you can use a short HDMI to the CEC device, and a "long" USB to your HTPC or the other way arround.

Personally I love the Pulse Eight device more. Less cabling with long distance setups and it doesn't take an extra HDMI from the TV. Downside, no eventghost support (yet, they are working on it.... For a year)
