when media portal is closed, the keys on the remote for power dvd work, as soon as i launch mediaportal and use your starter, you can hear the mediaportal sounds when using a key on the remote, so powerdvd doesnt even get the commands :(

What I would guess is happening is that MediaPortal is not releasing your IR service when it is minimised.

Open up MediaPortal configuration, goto Remotes - Hauppauge tab and make sure 'External processes may use the remote control' is ticked.

If it is, go back to General and untick the box for Starting MediaPortal in fullscreen.
Click ok to save the settings.
Now start MediaPortal.

Select HD Player and once PowerDVD has started, double click to take it out of Fullscreen mode.
Check in your system tray for the black remote looking icon.
If it's not there, you might need to untick the 'External processes may use the remote control' option click ok. Then go back into configuration and tick it again.

It's been a while since I played around with this plugin and I remember having one problem that annoyed me. It appears that PowerDVD had native support for the MCE remote. This meant that when I pressed the 'mute' button on the remote, PowerDVD would respond and toggle mute, but mediaportal would also toggle mute, thus canceling out the action.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Thanks.

This is because that exactly is what the plug-in is designed to do.
It does not expect your remote to actually be able to function with PowerDVD.
To get it running without the double presses, you will need to edit the source code and remove all keys but the close PowerDVD and reopen MediaPortal one. Recompile the HD Player exe with the altered source and replace the original exe with your newly compiled one.

Done!

hey redevil, thanks for the tip ;)
i will give it a hit when im bakc home.
if it doesnt work ... is there a possibility to close mediaportal over the autohotkey script without getting an error from watchdog?
when i use process, close, mediaportal.exe in autohotkey i get an error "mediaportal crashed unexpectedly"
if there is now other chance i would like to exit mp, start powerdvd with RunWait, watch my blueray and after closing power dvd autohotkey starts back mediaportal

but first of all, i will try your given hint :D

It could be possible, I could adjust the IRremote.ini to launch MediaPortal when the remotes power button is pressed and nothing is running.

That'd be a good way to get MediaPortal started if I close it with the remotes power button.

Could a version of this be made to work with WinDVD?

The PowerDVD that came with my LG combo drive just locks up the PC when I try and play an HD-DVD (irrespective of whether MP is running or not!)

I've mailed their support people for advice, but I did try WinDVD and it works just fine so I could just stick with that...

Does anyone know where to get skins for powerdvd 8? The ones posted here in this thread are only compatible with pdvd 7. I would love to have the bluray/hd dvd monochrome skin work for pdvd 8.

    Volume adjustment

For me this plugin works superb but i have a issue with power dvd it's possible to change volume when the movie is stopped but as soon as i
start playing the movie the volume bar is disabled. and this has nothing to do with hotkeys, it's not even possible to adjust the volume from power
dvd OSD. Is someone else experienced this problem

    possible trojan?

I just downloaded the files identified in the first post and started to install. Copying the HD-starter.exe to the plugins/Windows directory prompted COMODO virus scanner to quarantine it claiming there was a trojan

I tried the file on another computer with AVG and this passed fine.

    Any views?

    How does this work?

    I regret I am confused.

Having checked with a number of vbirus scanners I took the risk that COMODO was giving me a false positive for the trojan and installed.

I tried it and it sort of worked. I could get PDVD to run up in its own windows - MP minimized. Initially could not get PDVD to end and MP to return. Reading the thread again I updated HD_starter and the "back" button killed of PDVD and MP returned. Still both worked in their own Window. I also noticed that the handover between windows wasnt smooth - the sleeps in the script just didn't appear to work.

I then started to tweak it and soon realised that changing the script had no effect. Can any one give me a clue why?

Having read the autokotkey site I still cannot figure out why changing the script has no effect - then realised I wasn't using autohotkey.exe but hd_starter.exe. So what is hd-starter.exe all about?

Sorry to be a pain but this really does look like what I need but I just cannot get it to work like it apparently should.

    All help much appreciated
