Hi Thanks for that,

So this stage is never normally seen as it logs into the DB automatically and then i see the config page?. Interestingly the log in and password fields are filled in and when i press test i get an error message saying unable to connect??

In my frustration i did a system restore which took me back before the attempt to set up a homegroup and everything is back to normal, but i will be setting up a HG again and so will probably encounter the same issues.

I did turn off both firewalls when trying to set up the HG, as i was having trouble, it worked and the HG worked fine and then i switched FW's back on.
I shall have another go anyway.

Cheers

    Correct.

Ahhh, okay. So that means that the SQL Server instance is not reachable. I assume you didn't need to change SQL Server settings to get your HG working so maybe the database server isn't running, or alternatively maybe the firewall is preventing TV Server from connecting to the DB.

No, I didn't touch the server settings, so it could be one of those problems, when i make another attempt at HG i shall be a bit more wiser, watch this space....thanx mm

Well, i have about 49 things to sort out with MP, but one of them has just been sorted with a FB message from MP saying they are having trouble with the weather website, so now it's 48!!!!
So here goes, my Win 7 sound is not in Sync with MP. EG, when i leave Win 7 on say 25% when i start MP my max is 25%....so i have to come out of MP to increase sound on Win 7 to increase my max......there must be a solution to this???
My volume setting in config are greyed out??

    Again

    Steve

    Hi Steve

AIUI that is a Windows feature. MP can't change the max volume of the Windows sound control in W7 - it works within the limits of that volume. Which volume settings in config are you referring to?

    Hi mm,

Under general/volume settings/ control and scale are greyed out......

Are you saying that you simply make sure win 7 volume is max all the time, giving you maximum range in MP?

    regards
    Steve

    Hi again Steve

Under general/volume settings/ control and scale are greyed out......
Okay. If you read the wiki -->here<-- it explains why - Vista and 7 don't give the ability to control volume like XP used to. Settings are per application.

Are you saying that you simply make sure win 7 volume is max all the time, giving you maximum range in MP?
Yes, although don't quote me - I still use XP. My understanding is that the master volume in W7 controls the dynamic range for all applications and then each application has its own volume setting which can't go louder than the master volume. That means in most cases you would want to adjust the volume setting for each application and leave the master volume alone.

I understand your pain. I am not sure of your set up but will describe mine. I have a keyboard, Phillips 7500remote with S/PDIF out to my receiver. TV3 is AC3s and thus not changed by windows, the rest can be. I have event ghost running and have used that to change master volume on Windows avoiding application changes. This partly worked as AC3S sound was not adjusted. Marantz have a serial port and now event ghost only changes the receiver volume leaving Windows and MP at 100%

Bits that may be useful - try eventghost to fine tune how things work in general.... and look for a serial port on receiver and see if you can manipulate this instead....?

    Good luck

.... or get a Harmony One remote, set the volume on your HTPC/MP to Max (I use Windows 7) and programme the volume key on the remote to adjust the volume on your receiver, not your HTPC. Of course you don't have to have a Harmony One remote to do this, you could just use the remote for your receiver but using a Harmony One beats reaching for the remote for your receiver whenever you want to adjust the volume plus having to use another remote to turn your TV on & off etc...
