Hey guys..... I just got myself an Acer Aspire Nvidia Ion nettop and hoping to use it for an MP client.

It's the dual core atom 330 and seems to be working super so far....

Only issue is with recorded TV. I'm running the latest test build of MP along with the FFDSHOW codecs. With recorded TV the video freezes on the first frame but the audio continues in the background. I've tried content from all the different channels too with the same result.

I've been trying the PDVD9 and CoreAVC codecs and both do the same...

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated....

If anyone is keen to know more about how suitable the acer is for an MP client let me know...... Got it for NZ$400 delivered which was a bargain!

Have you checked that you're running all of the latest drivers for your machine? Are you connecting via wireless? If so 802.11g or 802.11n?

The price sounds great, where did you get it?

First i would copy a recorded .ts file onto the nettop's own harddrive then play locally. that will exclude network problems. I assume your running vista or win7, therefore you need to select EVR as the renderer in mp setup. I would also run graphedit to make sure that you are using the pdvd9 codec and not trying to use ffdshow (sometimes ffdshow forces itself on mediaportal, even when pdvd9 codec is selected). If you have EVR + are using PDVD9 and still have video freezes, the next step would be to enable aero. You could also try setting the shared memory for the onboard video to a fixed size rather than a dynamic size in bios. You should start with 512mb shared memory if that is possible, then try decrease to 256mb fixed size.

I'm running windows 7 prof with 2GB of RAM. 512MB is set aside for the graphics card in the bios. Full aero is enabled and am using EVR.

Copied the TS file to the local machine and it plays fine..... The machines are on the same gigabit network so not sure what could be causing this. Copied the TS file to a share on my home server and still the same issue.

TS files can be opened up in media player and viewed over the network no problem so seems to be a MP issue?

Any advice on how to run graphedit?

DrMopar, picked it up off e-bay....

    Reencode TV recordings

I can't seem to find a solution after many hours of searching. I want to (h.264) reencode some HD freeview recordings to a smaller size but retain reasonable quality for archiving. I've been able to do this for TV3 programmes using Handbrake, because it has an AC3 audio track, but for all other NZ freeview channels with only an AAC+ audio track, Handbrake crashes. I've tried MeGui as well with no luck.

Anyone know if there is anything available?

    Thanks.

Handbrake works fine for me with C4, which is AAC audio. I have probably encoded about 50 music video recordings from c4. Maybe you're doing something wrong, or your tv recording has too many errors.

I've only been trying TV1 & 2 which are HD of course. The signal is perfect here so shouldn't have any errors.

Does Handbrake show the audio track of C4 as AAC_LATM? What are you re-encoding the audio to? Plain AAC using faac?

It is a shame the AAC_LATM audio cannot be passed straight through without reencoding, like AC3 can.

Can't remember of the top of my head, but if you search back through this thread you will find my previous posts with my handbrake video/audio settings.

    Hi All,

Look at page 217 for the Handbrake settings to convert C4 recordings - these work perfectly for me. I use XVid and save as avi files and then use Solveig MM avi cuter (free) I then view these using PDVD9 and AC3 audio codec's.

My only issue is that Solveig MM sometimes does not cut correctly - not sure why that is? Anybody else know of another free avi cutter??

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

    Graham

the problem will be that you can only cut on specific frames, to cut on other frames you have to re-encode a small portion of video. you need cuter software that can also re-encode to get exact frame cuts.
