Okay, I'm getting pretty stumped here.

Branksome - are you 100% certain that the channel names did not get corrupted with the original (1.2.2) TsWriter when you had linked channels between the DVB-S and DVB-T cards?

I am starting to think that this problem has nothing to do with the DVB-T2 decoding (which makes sense since with the latest fix the EPG data isn't being corrupted any more) but is simply because you didn't try the new TsWriter.ax until you installed the DVB-T2 card because you didn't need it.

I think that if you have the old TsWriter.ax, you would see the same problem.

If this is the case, we definitely need to look into the problem, but we don't need to treat this as part of the EPG decoding problem.

    Branksome,

Please test with everything the same as you have now, but put the old TsWriter.ax back. This will certainly result in a messed up EPG but I am willing to bet that the channel names get corrupted.

Nothing has changed in the linkage scanner code for years. I bet this is a bug that has always been there in certain circumstances, but no-one has tested with the particular configuration that it requires until now.

Clearly you have to wait a while for the corruption to kick in.

I hate to give you a guilt trip, but this issue is the only thing holding up the release of 1.2.3 right now. :(

I can confirm that I use a NAS drive for recording from the S2 card and the T1 card. I use the HTPC's own disk for the T2 card.(By having programmes recorded on the NAS drive, I leave that drive on 24/7 with min power consumption and can stream through my home network to network enabled TV's - or at least that is the idea. To avoid any bandwith problems, I use the hard disk for the t2 card to spread the load)

I can confirm I have the box ticked for epg grabbing when timeshifting. I did that when I first started using MP because it seemed the epg would only slowly fill but I knew even less then than I do now

I can confirm that I never had problems with corruption with the old AX file until my area fully cut over to digital and I got the HD channels for the first time on Freeview

I notice that a programme I recorded at 1800 hours yesterday from BBC HD has the channel name corrupted whcih must have been soon after I allowed the T2 card to grab the epg. I am sorry I didn't note the time I did that. I am surprised I didn't notice that corruption yesterday evening - I guess I was just scanning the programme names rather than the channel names

I am afraid I won't be available until later tomorrow afternoon to respond for further info but I will do my best then

    Tom

    Great.

But presumably until you had the HD channels, you didn't have channels linked, or did you?

If you had channels linked before (SD channels) and no corruption, then this must be connected to HD as well.

We really need you to test the old TsWriter.ax under the current settings, and see if the channel names become corrupted after a while.

I've just had a brainwave and I think know what the issue is.

I have a hunch that Freeview have Huffman encoded the channel names to stop non authorised boxes decoding the channel names.

*edit: If I looked on the previous page then I would have seen the problem sooner! doh.

I will add code to the SDT scanner to check if it is encoded.

I will upload a test file tommorow.

But I have freeview, and I have channel names fine. From the logs, I am pretty sure it is the freesat ones that are getting corrupted. Jameson_uk mentioned (internal team forum) that the channel linkage scanner should not be used with freeview/freesat, but I can't see how to use it or what it is for - nothing in the wiki.

However, if you can add code that checks for encoded channel names and this works, great. Make sure you base it on Tony's fix (if appropriate) as it seems that the network ID reported in Branksome's case is not what you were (reasonably) expecting.

I suspect that there is a configuration error at some point here, and that a clean install/new TV database will fix everything.

Me too - with the standard 1.2.2 TsWriter.ax it was only the actual EPG data that got corrupted on the HD channels, not the channel names (as far as I remember).

Surely the channel names go into the database from the tuning process (and can be changed there), so they are always available on the MP EPG screen, even if there is no actual EPG data ?

    That is also my recollection.

Yep, I would assume that this is the case too.
