Hi guys,

I've been following the thread but I seem to be having some trouble sourcing the correct USB video grabber. Can anyone link me to a vendor that sells the Fushicai UTV007 video grabber that will ship to the US?

Thanks!

Hey Rick,
Very Nice Guide. Actually one of the best around !

I have already build one Amblight project using ws2801 Led strips but have now decide to do a second project with 2812b.

I find the Velcro idea very good and practical but the pictures does not show all the details.
I had my self several problems breaking led strips while mounting directly on the back of my Television. It could be that the first Led strip I bought was cheap, anyway this second time I want to do a better job.

If I "read" the pictures correctly you have velcro on the Television and on the plastic tray for the full length.
Afterwards the Led strip is attached directly to the plastic tray with the 3M adhensive tape. Correct ?
Finally as reinforcement you have used double sided velcro clips every 30 cm to prevent the led strip from wobbling.
On the pictures I can see a grey velcro (?) between the led strip and the plastic tray every 20 cm. What is the purpose ?

Thanks again

    Hi Pter,

On the TV itself I have the one-sided velcro glued on, best to use industrial strength ones and no the cheap consumer velcro as that needs to withstand the heat (tv/leds + outside temperature).
Afterwards I put one-sided velcro on the cable tray (10x15mm) to attach it to the TV it self.

Everything is Velcro attached even the led strips to the cable tray (every 20cm or so) as that just made things easier like when re-adjusting or upgrading, if you use good quality products it will be fine and not let loose after a few months.

The grey velcro is because I ran out of the black one :p , depending on your TV setup you could use velcro "tie-raps" to bind around the bottom led strip as that tends to hang a bit.
These you can cut into narrow pieces as to not cover the leds themselves.

Also apply alcohol (70-90%) to all contact points to allow for best adhesion as that removes any grease or other materials, if you have anymore questions just let me know :)

    Dear Rick,

Thanks for your detailed and very fast answer :)
The software part for me was easy but the Hardware ......
I had been thinking to attached the Led and the cable tray just with the adhesive tape but what your suggest is better. Tape is easy :p but considering flexibility and heat :(

BTW I use isopropyl alcohol . BAD taste but clean.

Thanks again for the quick answer and help. I wish I somehow could sponsor

The HyperCon tool isn't very well maintained, it doesn't list most of the new options so you have change those manually in the .json ouput config afterwards :)
Normally it will be the full name of the chipset (like WS2801 / WS2812 etc..) but not familiar with the APA ones so best to ask it on the Hyperion forum in case that doesn't work.

If you're gonna use the Arduino in between the led type name is always Adalight for the Hyperion config as you would set the led type in the Arduino sketch (code examples are in the first post), still prefer the Arduino in between as you're offloading it to hardware that is meant to handle it instead of messing with SPI / timings and what not.

Added a new Connection scheme chapter at the beginning to give a general idea how Hyperion works in combination with the hardware.

Hey, i loved your tutorial. But im having a few issues.

Since the release of OSMC and the launch of the new Raspbery pi 2 (that is the one i own), im having extreme problems trying to go further Step 1, cause all of the explanations i find is by using Raspbmc on the Pi 1. I bought all the kit/components specially for making ambilight. Is there any way you could make a tutorial for hyperion configuration on OSMC (with deep explanation, cause im a noob).

    Thanks
