Anyone recommend a DVB-S2 card (preferably PCI not PCI-express) with a single tuner that works well... I am looking for fast channel changing and most importantly no issues with S3 standby.

    Thanks

    AW: DVB-S2 Card that works...

    I use a Technotrend DVB-S2 3200 PCI Card with Vista 32bit.
Have absolute no issue with S3 -> take a look on my system configuration.
You only have to check the box "reinitialse tuner" in the powerscheduler settings in TVS.
Using it for over a year now.

I also have two TT S2-3200 DVB-S2 cards, one with a CI module and a Canal Digitaal CAM. Both cards are connected to three LNBs using diseqc switches. Channel changing is quite fast, although a bit slower when changing to encrypted channels. It's a dedicated MP TV Server running on Win XP Pro SP3 and I don't use S1/S3 so can't comment on that bit.

    AW: DVB-S2 Card that works...

if it is not tooo late ...
i had a lot of cards the last months in use and for testing:

TechnoTrend - S2-2300 one with ci one without .. ok with MePo 1.0.2

MSI TV@nywhere HD one with ci and one without - ok with MePo 1.0.2

next was a Terratec S7 (HD but USB-BOX not PCI) ...
worked also well with - ok with MePo 1.0.2 BUT sometimes frags on SD & HD

then i got the Terratec S2 HD - it is same PCB like MSI TV@nywhere
perfekt card - fast switching - less frags

last week i bought another MSI TV@nywhere without CI
    CAREFULL WARNING
the new PCB/layout is really strange -
it is complete new - but it is an USB receiver with a 4x USB controller all on a PCI-PCB
really slow - and HD was really awfull ...
not lookable - but i had luck - my hardware dealer took it back amnd i bought a Terratec S2 HD again

if it is interessting for you SD-TV the PCTV-4000 dual sat tuner
works also perfect with SDTV - and it is perfekt couse it cost only one PCI slot - for 2 tuners

I had a look at your config, just a further question: What about the system load when recording HD stuff on your machine? I use a dedicated
server just for recording (old P3 System / 1GHz, Siemens board) that is very stable (just restarting WindowsXP SP3 after Win updates), no
problems on recording, sleeping, recording...hundreds of times without a Windows restart or reset.

Thats the reason I´d really like to keep the old system equipped with new DVB-S2 card. Will it be suitable just for recording SD and HD (no timeshifting
    or live streaming)?

difficult to say, but for only recording (without viewing) the old system my work, but you can't compare old P3 with a 2x3ghz athlon :) ...there should not be much difference in recording SD or HD, cause it does basically only dump the stream to disk... its only more data to write with HD nothing else... ...give it a try, if it does not work, buy some new hardware... its not that expensive if you take the right components...

I really never had a stable hardware that was resuming from S3 like the old Siemens boards does. I don´t even have to worry when going on holidays, the server is doing his job - on other boards I tried after several times the Window message appered "Wiederherstellungspunkt löschen" where you had to press a key to restart Windows because the resume from S3 didn´t work. I will give it a try with HD, SD was working fine in the past (tested with WinTV-Nova).

    UPDATE:
The HTPC is doing very well on recording SD and HD material (720p from ARD and ZDF HD) with the new TT card. I have updated to RC6 and everything works fine, especially S3 and system hibernating after copying the recorded files via LAN to my Workstation.

When I tested MP 2.5 some months ago using TVE3.5, I found that "scan for channels" failed to find any channels when I selected a DVB-T2 tuner (a TBS 6284) :(, but succeeded when I used a DVB-T tuner (a Pinnacle 2000i) :). Obviously the Pinnacle found only those channels broadcast in DVB-T MUXes (in the UK we have both DVB-T MUXes and...

Most (all?) small PC cases accept only ITX motherboards, which have only one PCI-E slot. So you could install only one PCI-E tuner card. A quad-tuner card would give you four tuners, but if you wanted more tuners you would need to use the TBS eight-tuner card, or use external tuners, either USB tuners (available with single or dual...

    MP1 MP2 Card recommendation DE
I have a TBS 6284 PCIE card, which is an older quad-tuner DVB-T/T2 card. The tuners are significantly more sensitive than my Pinnacle 2000i DVB-T dual tuner card (and hence less likely to exhibit pixelation), but noticeably less sensitive than the tuner in my Sony TV. The Pinnacle card has been "rock solid" -- no problems at all. But...
