Did anyone try changing the zoom modes? I've asked around, and no one in the development or test team has ever seen this problem, nor can we figure out a way to reproduce it.

    Hi diehard2,

I've tried just about everything now I think. I've played with different zoom modes, different codecs, and different movies. I've attached the latest logs if you can find any clues in there.

What I have noted is that I get errors in the System Log:

En timeout (30000 ms) inträffade vid väntan på transaktionssvar från tjänsten ShellHWDetection.

It is in Swedish and says there is a timeout waiting for the ShellHWDetection service. This always happen when I try to view a movie. At many occasions I also get the error message

En timeout (30000 ms) inträffade vid väntan på transaktionssvar från tjänsten TrkWks.

which is a timeout waiting for the service TrkWks. Can this be of any significance?

This morning I did a clean install of RC2 (no SVNs) and used the MPV/MPA codecs. I installed on my laptop with an ATI Radeon 9600 gfx card and on my HTPC with integrated ATI X1200 gfx.

The laptop works just fine while the HTP still experience a black screen when trying to play movies. As I mentioned in an ealier post it did not make any difference when I installed an NVidia gfx card on my HTP either.

I'm kind of running out of ideas...

    /Peter

    Edit:

Added a more comprehensive log from MP Test Tool, MediaPortalLogs.zip.

Long time since I created this thread.

I remember that mediaplayer 10 or 11 didn't work either, neither did zoomplayer.

What I did was re-installing directx9, this can be done by using some tools. Normally this is impossible.
Although I had it working once again.

Remember, I didn't just get a black screen - The screen was black but some controls were rendered to it.
    Well, look at screenie.

I havent been bothered by this ever since.

So u guys with problems, does DVD playback work for u in other DVD players ?

    Hi gibman,

I can play DVDs (both from HDD and from DVD-disc) with VLC and other programs. Ican also play DVDs from disc OK. The problem is for DVDs on the HDD.

I've tried to disconnect the DVD-writer to just eliminate that as a source of the problem but it didn't help.

    Hi!

I spent (too) many hours investigating this and finally after walked away from WMP trying to load a movie it started... I restarted MP, clicked on the movie I want to view and left it for some minutes, and then it started!

For some reason it seems as it takes very long before the movie is initiated and ready to play. Once it started it worked just fine, but before that MP was very unresponsive.

Any ideas what this could be?

    /Peter

There are two kinds of problems in this thread. I have one of them (neither audio works): Some DVDs works fine, but some absolutely not. For example, when I play for the first time my Eagles DVD in MP, it works, but every next try to load it is unsuccessful. DVD spins for the 3 sec, but then it stops and I can see only black screen (without audio). I think it isn't depend on choosen codecs. Other DVD players hasn't problem.

I have OS Win Vista Bussines with MP 0.2.3.0 RC2. Is there any solution for this problem? :(

EDIT: Now, I tried copy DVD to HDD and removed any protection (incl. Region protection) from it and it play well! So, I think, there is our problem - DVD protections, as Mogwins already mentioned before.

I would say that's the exact same problem I have. I was going to try and remove the region protection from the drive and see if it still has the same problem.

Hey guys, I was having the same issues mentioned in this thread: Black screen, no audio, the DVD timer doesn't elapse. The fact that the developers were stumped made me believe it was no fault of the software so I had a look at my drive's region settings and sure enough it was set to region 2 while I was trying to play Australian DVDs. A quick change of region to the required setting and I've had no problems playing DVDs through MPRC2 so make sure your region is set correctly.

I'm sure I'm like a lot of people though and have dvds from all regions. I can view a DVD from say region 2 no problems, and then another, but if i then put in a region 1 I get nothing so it looks almost certain that it's the drives giving the problem.
