it works like a charm! It was livetv that stuttered, I haven't tried any other hd material.

The history of my system is that I bought the EB1501 when I only had bad dvb-t reception where the HD channels was unwatchable. I then have been using the system installing bits and pieces and updating misc. I then bought a terratec cinergy htc usb xs hd for my cable / DVB-C connection. The reception of the DVB-C was of course perfect but I had the aforementioned stutters, many micro-stutters using the CoreAVC and some major stutters every 3 seconds using the MS DTV-DVD codec. This is when I decided to do a complete reinstall from the hidden restore partion on the EB1501... And now it works!

Only difference I have made from the stock EB1501 with danish language is to choose english when I restored the system.

Best regards
Martin

mba: sorry but there are people out there that have ION and are not able to watch HDTV 1080i. Let me understand well: you output fullhd resolution but source (HDTV) is? (I mean HD channels you watch have 720p resolution or 1080i)?

the HD channels I am able to receive is in 720p and I output to 1080p, so no deinterlacing, only upscaling.

This is strange, there must be something on your system. I have an ION platform by myself. 1080i does not work but SD TV in fullhd resolution should (I can even play 1080p movies without problems).

If you're going back to windows 7 I will suggest you to update all drivers (including chipset ones) to latest version. What I also have find of help is deactivating aero features (like transparency) leaving aero active.

What do you mean by saying "1080i does not work"?

Cause it does work here under XP.

XP with VMR9 requires less GPU power. The situation is the following with my ION:

    - XP VMR9: 1080i HDTV, output fullhd no stuttering
    - Vista or 7 EVR: 1080i HDTV, output fullhd heavy stuttering

With 1080i I mean TV channels that broadcast in 1080i resolution. SD channels should work stutterfree since the source is "smaller" and deinterlacing a 720x576 source requires less power.

I think the ION platform is good if you have and HDReady TV (like the small one I have in my bedroom). In this situation 1080i channels are scaled down to hdready resolution and the GPU power is enough.

Hey mba, great to hear you've got a good setup with nVidia ION!

A few questions if I may:

So your system restore was what originally came with your machine, but did you do anything to it afterwards, like Windows updates, nVidia graphics, nVidia chipset, sound drivers, anything like that? Any config changes at all?

Are you usng full Windows Aero?

Are you outputting standard PAL streams to your tv on 1920x1080 @ 50hz resolution? And no stutter at all?

Are you using EVR, or VMR9?

Could you possibly post a screen shot of standard PAL with the Shift+1 graph please?

    Sorry for so many questions!

    Thanks in advance
    Si

Sorry for the short form I'm writing frombmy phone

Yes restored from hidden restore partition on the hdd

No driver updates only stock system. I can write version nr when I get home if you want them. Maybe some system drv updates through Windows update as this is enabled.

Only changes to the system is auto login
    Disabled hybrid sleep
    And installed mp rc5

It's using evr and aero plus transparency is enabled by default when system was installed.

I'm outputting SD and hd 720p to 1080p without stutter, I'm not sure how the system performs with statistics on, ill see about screendump when I'm back.

The only problem with this setup so far was pop-sounds from hdmi, I haven't found the reason but it has solved itself. And the other problem is that sometimes the display is 1024x768 vga before the hdmi handshake kicks in and the display is 1920x1080 in very rare situations mp doesn't register this and keeps displaying in 1024x768 until restarted.

BUT the system is as close to flawless as it has been in 5 years :D
