Expand TVSeries to a sister plugin? My Films? (2 Viewers)

You don't need to write any scripts they've already been written. I added scripts that totally automate stuff so you can grab all the info for tv shows from tv.com and imdb.com for movies, amazon for covers etc. You don't need to use all 50+ scripts but many of them are for other language sites, have different info etc..

What I still don't get is if people on here are happy with MyTvSeries, what is it from MyFilms that they want that MyTVSeries doesn't do? or is it just my god is better than your god, so popular these days.

and you think ant is over complicated? :-==boing==-+Xnumber9+number9=zq seems to make my cd eject 10mins into the film, why is this?

BUT It's all open source so if someone here want's to merge the 2 plugs, then create a new plugin and get coding, go4it. Having seen the regexp type of stuff above, it reinforces in my mind that using ANT that has been been in development for years, ported to linux etc is deffo the best way to go.

So... to shorten this: no one want's to merge myFilms and this plugin. They want a sister plugin of MPTVSeries handling movies based on the sister database of the TheTVDB.com handling the movie information. Why? Because it's user-driven content at its best.

The regex-thing is the same like your magical scripts. Someone has written them and you can select them from a list through the plugin config panel.

Two words: MyVideo sucks. You have to click here and click there. Then the fetched data is bad, another time it's wrong. The display is very basic and so on. I had to select almost the correct entry on my own. The fetched images are plain ugly and so on and so on.

People want easy-going and nice-looking stuff.

Let's sum it up to this: both plugins have their benefits. And some users like that plugin, others like the other one. I, for one, use both... But I also like the idea of a sister plugin to MyTVSeries being created - which is the reason of this thread if anybody has forgotten. So please stop arguing about which plugin is more complex or which is better to use.

Boy, wonder if I'd get flamed straight to Hell if I came in here and asked for a sister plugin to MyFilms
A month ago, I would have agreed with some of these posts, after just glancing at the wiki for MyFilms.
But, after being disappointed by MyVideos, I downloaded Ant and MyFilms and after about an hour had them
working great. I love them, and simply disabled MyVideos.
As for a sister plugin to MyFilms? I already made a couple, took about 5 minutes each. I now have MyFilms, MyMusicVideo, MyClips and MyPorn, oops, I mean MyRomanceVideos. All run concurently in MP and work great!

Is it alot of work to redo the plugin for movies? What MP needs is things beeing simple. The basic use of MP-Tvseries is so easy my father could use it without problems(that says alot). While MyVideos is rather easy to use, the whole thing isnt much more then a filebrowser. The new plugin should be as automated as MP-tvseries, and have the ability to show icons(could be enabled by default with easy stuff like 16:9 / 4:3, HD and surround).

Back to my first question: is there anyone who can/will do this? I would gladly donate money for such a plugin =)

There are parts that could be reused, but there are a lot of parts that will need to be completely rewritten, and probably will be rewritten for the TV-Series plugin for more flexibility before long. So basically it could be done but it would be a non-trivial task.

I have kind of started work on a new Movies Plugin that I want to have the same philosophy as the TV-Series plugin, but I only have so much time to work on it, and I am also trying to get into contributing a bit to the TV-Series project. Right now what I am working on is basically just a broad framework, but as I get more done I will open a SourceForge project so maybe other people can chip in.

Well, what I like about the TV Series, that this database structure (at least it looks like) is dynamic. If any new field is added to www.thetvdb.com, it is added to the database, and you can simply add it to display configuration to be able to see it.
No other plugin has such brillian architecture.

The thing I love about MyTV-Series plugin is the fact that you can link icons to all available database entries. THat's why I would love a Movies version from this awesome plugin. Browse through your movies with icons like 720P / AVC / DTS icons popping up next to the artwork. Seigh.....

So people are talking about a site similar to thetvdb.com but for movies; is that a fact? a wish? I looked around in thetvdb forums and didn't see anything related to that idea.

I wouldn't be against trying to do something about movies, but it would need a solid online DB behind it; matching stuff for TV episodes it relatively easy, as once you have matched a name to a specific TV show, you only have to parse the Season Index / episode Index and basically you're done.

Now see how it already gets a bit more troublesome for specials ... most of the time you have to match it manually.

I honestly don't think I'd end up with better results than the current IMDB matching. But, I would like to see more information being displayed on the movie page. So maybe all it needs is a bit more automation, and a bit more GUI flexibility? combine the IMDB pane with the main pane in order to have both the list of movies AND the related IMDB information on the side.

It exists, it is located at http://www.movie-xml.com/. You are right though the results are not as good as IMDB. Plus there are a lot of video games mixed in there for some reason, which creates problems when you have games based on movies. Sometimes you get an incorrect result that is an exact match by title. The movie poster selection is decent, but not great, it needs some work. On the bright side though, the interface is ridiculously easy to use. Like I mentioned above I am working on a Movies Plugin that is kind of modeled after how the TV-Series plugin works, and the data provider to pull info from movie-xml.com took less than a day to write.

All in all it's got promise, but needs some work in several areas, and needs more support from a few good plugins.
