Wow, been away for a while but could not help reading this whole thread.
MYTVseries is the best thing about MP and is the reason I still use it.
Let’s get this thread back on track, or close it and start a new one!
The existing myFilms plugin is good at what it does, I get it, I used to use xlobby that also used ant, and yes it is flexible and good for cataloguing offline dvd's etc....but can we just leave it at that and talk about this idea for a type of MYTVseries movie plugin or mediainfo enhancement to myVideos.

I think the initial title was wrong and that is what got the goat of the myFilm users, we have no interest (no disrespect to myFilm users) in expanding MyTVseries into that plugin.

I think what people here want, and what I want, is an enhanced myVideos style movie plugin.

It should use movies-xml as a source, it has good high(ish, better than Amazon) res covers and enough description
Online Movie Database - An open directory of Movies for HTPC software

    It's forum is here
MeediOS :: View topic - Movie Database (based on tvdb)
and it has 297,750+ movies now.

Yes, you can use the existing MyVideos with the movedb grabber and the layout is quite good in list view when sorted by title, but it does not have mediainfo and I miss the overlayed icons for HD res, etc....

What we REALLY want, is the cool factor of the look of MYTvseries with the mediainfo reading icon overlay facility and auto updating.

If you use another language not english, the available information in that DB is really poor.
Myfilms rocks. With amcupdater adding new films is almost automatic

...but that is because the user community that drives these things is not very large for the movie_db.xml site (not as large as thetvdb.com) but it is growing. MeediOS seems to have a larger following of it, but I guess that is 'cos we do not have a plugin that works with it.

Anyway, I am sharing my updated myVideos grabber with you all now, so give it a try, it is much quicker than the IMDB search and retrieves relevant (unlike the IMDB one which comes back with random covers nothing like the movie name!) high res covers all in about 1 sec per movie!

For a full plug-in like what you described above, it could have multiple data sources, not just Movie-XML. So non-english users could still get data.

And for what it's worth I am working on a plug in pretty much exactly like what you described above. It is still a ways from even being ready for beta testing but I recently setup a Google Code page over here with a corresponding Google Group. Like I said it is a ways off though. For example I am still working on the backend and config screen stuff, I haven't even started the front end Media Portal user interface. So it's not ready for use, even for the daring, but just so you guys know something is being developed like what you're asking for.

If any of you are interested, I'd encourage you to subscribe to the Google Group. I will make a post on the forums here when it's ready for beta testing, but primarily I will be making announcements in the Google Group.

So, is there any progress with this? Saw on the Google Group that there's been reinforcements in the coding department for this project. Would be nice to get to test this in 2008. :D

Yes progress is still being made on the project. Sorry for the lack of updates. This week I may put up a blog to chronicle the development process, just to keep people in the know that are curious what's going on. Briefly though, I've recently been on vacation and been pretty busy with work, so this project has taken a bit of a back seat for me for a while. Over the next month or two though I should have more time to work on it so hopefully we will have a beta release by the Fall.
