Anyway of notifying of new updates in GUI? Or autoupdating in background?

Yep ltfearme just added a new option for that in latest version. That's what he meant in changelog by:

* Added Loading Parameter support to main window, currently can jump to a view. This is esp. useful for skinners that what to display a button when there is an update available for at least one extension installed. This can be used in conjunction with the mpei.updates property ie show button if this property is not empty.

I already tested it and it works like a charm. Ofc skinners have to add it to their skins

Autoupdating in background is still an issue due to UAC in Win7. I know the Team devs are looking into it and hopefully we might have a solution for 1.3.0.

Yep, that was added for convenience for skinners so they didnt have to create a button for each plugin that they support. Its much easier to jump to a view where it shows you all plugins awaiting update.

You can of course still provide buttons that show if an update is available to a particular plugin, in streamedmp there is a few windows where this is done e.g. TVSeries/OnlineVideos HiddenMenu will show a button if an update is available for that plugin. You can then click on it to launch the update.

I have a strange bug in the extensions plugin: In the "Installed Extensions" View, when I select any item but the first one, the description text of the first item will continuously flash in for a few ms...

I can't reproduce that one, is it reproducible using DefaultWide skin?

Just one small "cosmetic" bug: The label "Views" is coded with label 14002, better would be the label 457 (in English "Switch View").
This label has correct translations in all language files, as 14002 has not

Just playing around with new extension plugin and found a possible bug:
When switching to view "Extensions Online: All", MP freezes, and log is filled with:

Seems, that code.google.com is down, so the logo.ico can´t be found.
An error like that should not lead to a freeze of MP and filling up the error log with repeated entries of this kind (atm my MediaPortal.log has 560.184 KB)
You have to stop MP by either invoking MPConfig or via task manager.
Damien, maybe you could have a look into this issue?
It should be reproducable atm.

I think it has to do with the ongoing refresh from MP Website?

Nah, the problem was with a faulty icon location of movingpictures mpei....

thanks, obviously something not right there and will improve it in next version (already fixed the incorrect msg in log, it shouldn't be referring to 'updates'). Incorrect online location for icon shouldn't affect performance and should only be tried once to retrieve.

Nice suggestion, you should add it to the issue tracker so its not forgotten.
