Feature request: exclude folder on import (1 Viewer)

For what it is worth I've always kinda wanted this feature too. The reason being that Amazon Unbox dumps all downloads into the same directory including a subdir for "Previews" of every episode downloaded so I wind up with double entries for these episodes, one for the actual ep and one for the preview. Of course I know I can move these previews out manually and I've been putting off writing a script to do the same, but I still think a minor feature like this goes a long way towards making things more user friendly and towards a "set-it-and-foreget-it" type of setup where a novice user can just say "import all the television shows on my external hard drive except this one folder for stuff that's problematic or I don't want to admit to people I have :)" That said, I'm not gunning for anything but if you happen to be in that area of the code at any point, it would be nice.

The only problem is to do this correctly this will require a redesign of the configuration part. I'm thinking a nice treecontrol with checkboxes besides all folders.

Or we'll go the ugly way and simple add a checkbox where you define folders to say exclude. This could be done rather quickly and it'll get the job done too. So you would have to define eg:

    include Folder: E:\
    exclude Folder: E:\folder_with_stuff_not_to_import

Hmm, now that you mention it I remember thinking the same which is why I hadn't brought it up before. There isn't really an elegant solution to an inelegant file structure. I actually like your second suggestion better because you can just define a directory that holds tv shows which will include any other subdirs that get created (amazon actually adds a subdir per show in addition to the previews folder at the top level) and ignore any folders you recognized as problematic. Ugh, the more I think about it this is just plain silly to bring up since its really Amazon's problem and no one in their right mind would structure their files in such a random way. Consider my support of this request revoked.

Thanks for the reply, Inker. Granted I'm not doing the coding, but I think the best, lasting solution would be to fo the folder tree option.

My problem is that I would like to switch from Kodi to Mediaportal. In Kodi, putting an Extras folder in the same folder as the movie automatically manages all the extras on the Bluray, so my library is organized in this way. Moving everything would be a very long job (I have more than 2800 movies), plus I would lose the Extras...

I'm running 2.5 with the WMC skin. I have .mp4 files, along with the related .srt files in the same folder. I can watch the movies just fine. In past versions of MP, like 2.4x, I could press the More Info button on my remote twice, and on the second press, an option for showing/choosing the subtitles was listed. I'd select the...

I made some updates to the Wiki page describing the <import> and <include> tags, including adding a couple of new xml examples. For the first example, I highlighted the example text and eventually found the location in the menus where I could select the CODE macro to have the example text formatted as a code example. So far, so good...
