Doesn't the 3rd screen shot show the processes running/using the memory though? If that's not it I'm not sure where to look - any pointers?
Any news on this? Your third screen does indeed show 52% CPU usage, but the process responsible for this is off-screen. Can you try this again?, Click on the CPU column to sort on CPU usage so the top consumers end up at the top....

I had sorted that column by usage.... (from what I remember)

....I'd really like to know what's causing the CPU usage....

Me too!!!

...Two fingers have been vaguely pointed at For The Record ....

Not at all!! I was just asking the question! :D I think 4TR is the best plugin out there! it should be the default TV plugin as far as I'm concerned!!(you've seen my signature right??)

...so I'd like to get to the bottom of this ;)

once again, me too! but I've just come home from a concert and I've drunk too much to try to work this out right now - all I can tell you is that no other processes were running at the same time. It could even be a skin issue(?) which is why I didn't reply earlier - I'll run Blue3Wide for a bit :)wtf: :D) and see if I have the same problems.. I'll let you know...

Thanks for following up on this. It's time for me to go to bed now :) I hope I don't have a hangover tomorrow.... :(

Guys, I have a few questions.
When the new MediaPortal version will be released I want to switch to 4TR for my recordings.
But I still have one question:
Can I use the DVB EPG info for 4TR? At the moment my TV guide is completely filled with information from the DVB-C stream. It is taken care of by my tv provider and it works great.
So I hope I can use the same DVB info in 4TR and not having to switch to a webfilled tv guide or something...

Second, what is the reason again this hot plugin is not in the 'Hot plugins' section?

Third, is it possible to close some of the older 4TR threads? It's quite confusing to look for the right 4TR thread to get an answer or info on a question you have. Just one active 4TR thread would be great!

:D

Kkendall:
4TR can import the EPG from MP (takes some time the first run) , and MP still get the EPG from your DVB. As far as I know, I use an external EPG. So someone correct me if I'm wrong.

FTR seems good enough to warrant further investigation into these things... Mediaportal should definitely incorporate FTR into its infrastructure.

Oh, man, that has been suggested so many times! :D
And offcourse for us users, everybody would favour 4TR over the standard MP recording section, but for some reason the devs of MP and 4TR can't come to a mutual agreement...Unfortunately.
If I understand correctly, it's legal rights and code related or something.

OK, cool ;) But can you then please redo your screenshot, but this time showing the processes at the top of the list, so not the ones consuming 0% cpu?

Otherwise we'll never know. Your machine is showing 52% CPU usage, so something in that list is using about 50% cpu. Please identify that process :)

I don't know if this is the same problem but I too had problems with cpu usage around 50% when doing multiple recordings. This happened on two different clean installs of XP and Vista. Everytime it happened it was the TVService that was the culprit and MPs logs showed some SQL related errors.

Uninstalling SQL Express and doing a complete reinstall of FTR and MP using the MySQL option instead seem to have fixed the problem.

While I can't explain why this would only happen with For The Record installed it's interesting to hear it was the TvService.exe process that used up the CPU. This in fact makes perfect sense since, as I explained before, For The Record doesn't actuall do anything while recording.

Perhaps someone from the MediaPortal development team could make an educated guess here?

It looks like I've found the culprits :) I've done some Googling and found out that the "WZCSLDR2.exe" has something to do with my D-Link wireless connection - I'm going to see if I can remove it (there are conflicting opinions on this but I'll give it a go..)

Is the System Idle Process supposed to use this much CPU? Because even when I have no applications running my CPU seems to sit at around 50% - is that normal?

Well, actually its not even a process. It is just a way for OS to tell how much free time CPU(s) have :)

And when you see it at 50% it most likely tells that you are running some CPu hungry process that is not using multiple threads and can block only one CPU core.
