Can you check your system's event-log using eventvwr.exe to see if it gives more information? Obviously you should not be getting this error every 30 seconds. Did your database get corrupted?

The POP3 error seems to be simply due to bad settings? No? It's failing authentication on your POP3 server.

This is why I don't think FTR is ready to be the TV-solution for every single user. Even so, I do think the "starts around"-feature is worth every single minute it took to install and configure FTR - everything else is just icing on the cake that makes my HTPC-experience so much better :D[/QUOTE]

jonaskp, I agree with you, FTR rocks! However, can I ask how you find the "starts around" function so useful... doesn't it rely on an ever updating TV guide? I update my XMLTV guide every week or so but if (for example) a scheduled recording slipped 10 minutes forward on the day of transmission, this wouldn't be recognised by FTR right? Or do you use live tv guide updates?

Thanks

The starts around feature does rely on an accurate guide, yes. But it is especially useful in countries where daily programs never start at the exact same time.

For example, in Belgium the late news never starts at exactly 23:00. I just checked this week's guide and today it's broadcast at 22:50, tomorrow at 23:00, and the day after tomorrow at 22:45.

With a simple "around 23:00" rule this program is automatically recorded at the correct time every day.

As DVDFreak says, its true that it does rely on correct EPG. I update my EPG daily, so I have very accurate EPG. Of course, of something happens that changes whats being transmitted on the same day, the EPG won't pick it up (ie a football match going into overtime, would still only be recorded as the regular 90 minutes). There is no difference in how regular MP og FTR handles this.

The reason I find it usefull is that sometimes programs don't start at the same time everytime they are aired. This can be due to different scheduling (like DVDfreak wrote about Belgium news).
Another thing is that if a show is cancelled, FTR doesn't record at that time anymore. Last time I checked, if I have set up MP to record friends everyday from 15:30 to 16:00, and the show ends (something else is aired instead in this timeframe), MP would continue to record everyday from 15:30 to 16:00.
FTR only records something if the name corresponds to the recording schedule.

To compensate for programs shifting around 5-10 minutes besides the EPG data, I have 10min pre-record and 15 min post-record. The great thing about FTR is that when you later start a recording, FTR remembers the postrecording. This means that when I start the shows, FTR skips ahead and starts the recording 10min into the recording, which is the time that the program was supposed to be aired. This means that I can easily have long pre-record without having to deal with skipping for a long time when starting a recording. Another great feature of FTR :D

Thanks guys, that makes complete sense. Regardless of last minute EPG changes, the feature is useful, as you say, to pick up constantly shifting timings in a schedule (and therefore useful when you rely on the "record weekly" option). Especially for American Idol which is on at different times every week! Which reminds me, what happens if you schedule 2 recordings on the same channel (e.g. from 2100 to 2200 and from 2300 to 0000) and both schedules slip forward an hour.. will FTR adjust to record both an hour later or adjust to record one but miss the other?!

i'm no expert and so i didn't know exactly what to look for but i found nothing concerning these issues starting on 16th march around 00:00 o'clock in the systems eventlog...

in the application-part there were bunch of errors starting at 00:03 o'clock... the epg update with tvmovie clickfinder starts every day at 00:00 so maybe this has corrupted the database? i still wonder how this can happen...

i reinstalled 4tr now and deleted the old sqldatabase files. now it seems to run fine again. i hope it stays so for a while :D

thx anyway, great plugin! love it!

It will adjust both.

How cool is that?? :D It's the reason I changed to ForTheRecord and why I think it's indispensable - plus the bit about not recording programmes once they are no longer being aired and the way it automatically skips the pre-record period etc etc :D Fantastic!

Here in NZ if you set a programme to recording weekly at XYZ time next week it will probably play at WXY time! (eg. 5 minutes earlier or later). As a result when I used the MP TV plugin I ended up with stacks of "Manual" recordings - it was no better than recording onto a video tape and then not knowing what I had recorded and I built my HPTC to get away from that! ForTheRecord has completely eliminated that scenario, which is why it features in my signature :D

I have just uploaded For The Record 1.3.3.3, a minor maintenance release.

Since we are totally committed to maintaining the highest possible quality we wanted to get these minor fixes released, and not have everyone wait until we are ready to release version 1.4.

    Just saw the following:
Scheduled recording start with a pre-record of 5 minutes. While we are still in the pre-record time (minutes 1 to 5), I want to tune into the active recording from the MP client plugin. I see about 2 seconds video then it stops. After the pre-record time, it works as expected. Maybe it's got to do with the auto forward of the pre-record time when you start playback.

    MP 1.0.0.0 with SVN22162
    4TR 1.3.3.3

Can't give logs since the recording is still busy.
