Excuse my silly question, but does 4TR support 'TiVo Suggestions' type of recording timers?
TiVo suggestions are automatic suggestions I assume. Those are not available.

But suggestions are possible for the rules you define. For example, you can set up a suggestion for all movies in prime-time (on all channels, or your favorite channels e.g.).

You can then view the list of suggestion from the MMC or the MediaPortal plugin and click those you like and create recordings for them.

Yes, auto suggestions - fire and forget sort of recording timers...

Maybe this could be the next 'innovation' for 4TR, but it might need a big effort (setting up the server for the suggestion data). I wonder if we could make a big effort to achieve this?

I would suggest using a low-priority schedule for fire and forget recordings. I have such a schedule set up to record the 19:00 news and late-evening news every day.

If something more important is on and no free card was found, the news was skipped. But in most cases I always have the two last news broadcasts available for playback (I have set it up to only keep two recordings for this schedule).

You can easily do something similar for all movies in prime-time, or all movies with Tom Cruise, or all documentaries about "Global warming", etc... The sky is the limit :)

Sorry, but I have no experience of 4TR yet, or any other scheduler, but this is good to know that it does this...

Also, I've not any experience with TiVo or TiVo's suggestions recording method. I just think I know what it is all about... and this is what I think it does (I suppose people will correctly me if I'm wrong), but the point is, this is what I am after.

For example, say I like to watch Police/Crime/Thrillers/etc., AND say I have the CSI series to record. Then the 'suggestions database' would suggest that I record 'The Wire' and will auto record this series for me when it started showing... and so on (say when another or new series starts)...

The suggestions method is not about rules (and priority, etc), but more about 'related' shows, programmes and movies... which auto records for you depending on what you have recorded already and what the 'suggestions database' suggests...

The recent showing of the Red Riding trilogy of films would have perfect for this as it was not majorly advertised about and I missed the first episode. If say I had (once upon a time) Life on Mars set to record, and I like watching Police/Crime/Thrillers/etc., then the suggestions mechanism would have recorded the 3 films automatically for me... without me making an effort or know about it and when it was showing.

Well this is the idea, anyway.

Why don't you give it a try? :)

Thx, w're two actually, but dot-i is the MP guru ;-)

:D Ernie-c, got it going already. Quite easy batch script calling a bit of mencoder and doing some cleanup.

Just one more question. I understand if this can not be answered;
I'm currently creating a sort of portal website for my server. This portal contains links to all web exposed apps I'm running such as ForTheRecord.
I'm running Apache and because I'm really familair with PHP I've done some work to get passed login forms with cURL. I got this working real good with uTorrent webUI and Emule webUI but I can not seem to get the ForTheRecord one right.
The ASP.NET login form seems a bit tricky. It has some weird, and to me sometimes, unpredictable headers.
I always debug what I do by ways of telnetting to my server and (trying to) send the right headers. I haven't got it right so far. It seems to be an issue with cookies and all AJAX calls should be going through the server (cURL) instead of the client.
If all this seems a bit fuzzy and unclear I can understand, I appreciate any effort to help me get there.

Hey just had a good read of above.. Man that is some advanced scheduling options... Would be cool to see that inside MP, though I understand that would be quite complex...

Any way have a question... What is with the LCN numbering... I presumed this was so I could assign accurate numbers to what would be on my STB... For instance everyone in New Zealand here knows Discovery Channel to be on 70, so I set all the LCN's along side to what they are but when I go to enter the number in MP it does not utilize the LCN...

Am I missing some thing here... One more thing, can you use the words AND and OR in search criteria for the "Descriptiojn"... For instance I actually do want to record documentaries about "Global Warming" but due to the Bush administration we now have the word "Climate Change" to consider...

So yeah I want to have Global Warming OR Climate Change.... Thanks

Oh and one more thing, who do I bug to get a streamed MP updated skin for this amazing plugin..

It should, but you need to make sure your option to use the channel numbers, and not the index, is set correctly in MP's config.
