The names of the linked channels and their parent channel are broadcasted on the epg pid with a special tag and are normally broadcasted on each link and portal channel.
So whenever we tune a channel we run the epg grabber and see if we get the descriptor.
If so we change the names and linkage infos in the db.
That's the problem because after the grabber has run, the linked channels get renamed and so the connection between the MP channels and your scheduler channels will be broken.

Is it ever possible to schedule recordings on such linked channels, if their name changes the whole time? I mean, even in standard MP?

Does the name of the "master" channel ever change? As long as that stays fixed I think there's no real problem as we could get the list of linked channels at the time a user is watching the master channel.

However, if recordings need to be possible on such linked channels the matter is indeed more complex.

Do broadcasters actually try and make life hard for us al? ;)

Anyway, I'll open up a thread on the For The Record forum regarding these linked channels so this topic can be continued there.

Hi thanks for this plugin, done very nicely

One question can channels be linked to a button on a remote control? ie press button 1 and it changes to channel 1 etc.. Also is there a way to keep the 'my radio' side of tv client?

    Cheers

    Excellent program, thank you.
I don't know if I'm missing something, is there a way to schedule recordings, alerts or suggestions from within the mediaportal gui. I mean in the same way it can be done from the management console.

    Thanks.

You can create schedules in MediaPortal from the TV guide, click on the program and afterwards use the "Record" button in the top-left.

This will create a basic repeating schedule with an around-time rule, optionally with the New episodes only rule turned on (there's a toggle button on this screen to do that).

The full power of the rules engine can currently only be accessed from the Web Access or the Management Console, but as the MediaPortal plugin is improved over time we'll add as much as we can there too...

Creating a recording from a suggestion can also be done from within MediaPortal in a similar way. Just click on the suggestion (in the Upcoming Programs screen) and click "Record".

Ok . It was "the full power of rules engine" what I was talking about. ;)
OK ;) Well, that will follow in a future version, or if someone feels inclined, the source code of the plugin is freely available so anyone could help out here :D

The neat thing though (at least I think so) is that even though the UI within MediaPortal is currently basic, it is actually using the real rules engine underneath with all the benefits.
