I know your pain!
I think, as pointed out further up, that the DLs are not names as expected - hence the wrong import.
If I use the above URL then the series is identified http://www.thetvdb.com/api/GetSeries.php?seriesname=forever+(2014) but the DLs are named just as Forever.

auto-matching against existing parsed series names in configuration as well

That sounds like a good idea - until someone decides to DL an old series with a same name - how would that work? (not that I do BTW!)

It wouldn't work, you would need to create unique names for your files to identify two distinct series. I would need to add support for folder matching but that would not prevent the same folder name in two different paths, next alternative which would be better is nfo support.

Before I switched to SickBeard which does it all for me automatic, I relied heavy on MP-TVSeries "String Replacements" to do this.

If memory serves me, you can even make folders part of your match, to ensure only "\Forever (2014)\Forever.S01E01.mp4" is renamed from "Forever" to "Forever (2014)".

But I have been using SickBeard for so long that I totally forgot how I used to do that
