Re: AW: Freeze while changing channels

I can now reproduce the freeze very easily. It occurs when I try to switch the channels very fast, I press the next channel button before the new channel is shown on TV.
I tried a SVN version about 4 weeks ago and there the freeze didn't occur. So one of the latest changes must have introduced the problem.

Which SVN version was it ?

I seem to have the same issue.

I have the 1.2 Beta installed atm on my lounge HTPC BUT I have upgraded TV server (on my server) to the 1.2 RC.

The lounge PC works just fine at the moment but my dev machine which is running the 1.2 RC client and the SAF 6.0 codec pack freezes when changing between some channels (such as SD and HD channels).

I have tested with the ffdshow codecs and the LAV codecs and I get the same results. I have posted this issue in another thread in this section with logs and also uploaded a sample of the ABC24 channel (which is one of the culprits here) with still no resolution (seems to play fine for the devs).

So I am at a loss and unable to upgrade any machines or use the latest skins. Just waiting as I have spent too many hours trying every combination under the sun with codecs.

You mention multiple PCs. Your system specs say XP, is this on playback machine?

Also could you try make a recording and then rename the TS file to MKV and then attempt to play that in video section. Does that work?

(and you really need to supply logs.....)

    It was the version 1.1.7.28122.
I just installed this version again to try out if the freezes still exist.
And it works flawlessly, no freezes at all.
So it must be one of the latest changes which causes the problem.

Can you try a different video decoder ? - someone else has reported some problems (but not freezing) when using LAV CUVID decoder and nVidia 275.xx drivers.

    Tony

I just tried the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder.
It does not fix the problem, I still get some freezes while changing the channels.

Tested channel switching extensively yesterday - no troubles at all. But I am using an ATI card here, so.... not sure how useful that test is for your case.:(

AW: Re: Freeze while changing channels

    Hi :)

Just for testing, can you try attached file and also to be sure that you have the latest LAV CUVID :
Doom9's Forum - View Single Post - LAV CUVID Decoder - High Quality Hardware decoding for NVIDIA

Make sure to not use Reclock for testing. (For example, when look graph it seems that it is not in graph but it is use (reclockDS.dll) best way if you have installed it is to uninstall it).

    Thanks :)

    Hi,
I've just installed the new version of LAV CUVID 0.12 and tried your attached file.
I still get many freezes while switching channels. I have the feeling, it is even worse than before. :(

Attached are two logs. Hopefully they can help you to find out the problem.:)

    I had the same issue
i resolved it by using the ffdshow codec
however this codec is harder on the cpu and GPU
so it does studder a little bit
please fix the use on microsoft and mpc

I now experience the problem regardless of codec used
i changed the server back to 1.2 beta and still experience the issue
    so i re-upgraded to 1.2 rc
does anyone have any update on a workaround or a correction??

just re-read the last few posts
it is it the client taht has to go back to beta to correct the issue or the server??

    Hi charettepa

I suggest you post logs so that we can confirm you have the same problem. If you have a multi-seat setup then use the watchdog to get the client logs and zip up the server logs manually (server logs can be found by opening TV Server configuration and clicking "open log directory" in the top left hand corner).
