You mean pixelformat settings within EVR are adjustable within MediaPortal?
If so, were can you set those output settings because they aren't in MP Config?

No, just as seperate filer in MPCH to get grey working

OK, i knew that already indeed. But outside MediaPortal i don't have the problem with any ATI driver. It only happens inside MediaPortal.

Isn't at their homepage yet. Or did you mean 9.5?

Ahh found change log: http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/Catalyst_96_release_notes.pdf nothing special about it

Yeah it still says 9.5 but has todays date, if you click the link it downloads 9.6

No difference with Catalyst 9.6 and EVR playback within Media-Portal. Pixel format set to YBrCr 4:4:4 played the AVS HD 709 mp4 test files and with EVR black is showing at level 0 rather than 16. Switch to VMR9 and black is showing at level 16, the same as EVR does within MPC-HC.

I am also having this problem. I just installed an ati 4850 with the latest catalyst version. Blacks are black everywhere but when playing video in MP. The MP interface has the correct blacks but video is all washed out. I tried VMR9 but I get a blank screen in MP.

Same here. Outside MediaPortal (MPC-HC + EVR) blacks are great, inside they're not, and i'm more and more convinced that that's were the problems lies.

We definitaly need to get our hands behind this issue and get it fixed. In the meantime i'll see if i can setup an external player to bypass the problem :( (and i so hate external players because the lack of control with remotes)

Disable the AMD External Events Utility service!!!

When I upgraded from Catalyst 9.1 to 9.5 I was having all kinds of problems with my HDMI connection. Everytime I would turn my AVR or TV on the CCC would reset and Pixel Format would go back to PC Standard instead of Studio. All of those issues went away after I disabled that service!

I wouldn't do that because disabling that service effects (the pixelformat) settings (Just noticed that if you change them in ATI CCC, nothing happens with the service disabled)

    I've experienced the same issue:

Choosing YBrCr 4:4:4 causes media portal to be washed out, within the media portal interface and during video playback. A person is forced to roll the brightness back in CCC to compensate.

RGB 4:4:4 seems to remove the wash, but crushes stuff that the same time. Colors look oversaturated, IMO.

As for 9.5 versus 9.6, go with 9.6, ATI has addressed the deinterlacing issues.

In order to resolve this issue every user that suffers from it must provide more details, otherwise there are far too many unknowns at work here:
    - How is your HTPC connected to your AVR/TV? TV/AVR model?
    - Which OS (exact version/service pack)?
    - Which video decoder?
    - Which ATI driver version?
    - What codec the videos is used to encode the videos that are causing problems?

Everybody coming on here that just says "Oh I have this issue too" isn't helping at all. There are far, far too many factors/variables at play. Different TVs and AVRs have different settings that affect how source video levels are treated (16-235 vs 0-255).

Here's my info, as an example (and I don't have any problems, my blacks are perfectly fine for all H.264 and/or MPEG2 HD video I watch):
    - Connection: ATI DVI-HDMI adapter to Yamaha HTR-6190 (AVR) to Panasonic TH-58PZ800U. TV expects video levels (16-235) and AVR passes the signal straight through.
    - OS: Vista Ultimate (no SP) patched with SP1 EVR DLLs.
    - Decoder: MPC Video Decoder (recent SVN build).
    - ATI driver: 9.5, Pixel Format set to "RGB 4:4:4 Studio Limited".
    - Video encodes: H.264/AVC/VC-1 (HD), MPEG2 (HD).

In addition, please download the AVS HD 709 MP4 test patterns from AVS Forum and use them to adjust brightness/contrast correctly. The test patterns are also very useful to determine which black levels are being crushed. There's also a PDF file that documents the patterns, please read that. The AVS HD 709 test patterns can be found here: AVS HD 709 - Blu-ray, HD DVD, & MP4 Calibration - AVS Forum
