    I have this same card.

My problem is I can't find the capturecardefinitions.xml file to even exist. I also can't find where the setup option is to add a card?

The instructions indicate there is an EDIT/ADD capture card function but I cannot find it anywhere in the setup screens.

    Am I blind?

    Thanks.

Focus... all setup functions having to do with cards will be in the Server application, not the MP-config, or MP application. You shouldn't need to edit the def file as the 1600 has been around for a while now (although it is in different folders whether you have XP or Vista -- have you thought to populate your hardware profile for ALL of us to see) and as long as you have the Hauppauge BDA drivers already loaded MP will do fine locating the card.

I created the .xml file and when I started the app again the card was present and finally able to scan for channels. I let it scan analog channels and it found all local channels. I get no audio however. It has some options to select the input but assumes it is plugged into the CD or Line input, neither of which is the case. There is no "jumper" to the audio card as used to be the case with older cards. It has a setup section with HD Audio selected and no other options showing.

Also though I can see a "thumbnail" of the channel I can't get it to enlarge to fit the screen. I also can't figure out how to change channels.

To me the interface seems kind of confusing and not intuitive at all....?

    Thanks.

The thumbnail is in the server-setup and is intended to be a reference. After you establish your TV channels in the line-up you save and close the Server. Then open the MP-config and select the mpeg-2 and audio codecs for TV and you may have to setup your tv scheduler as well. I'm in the USA and use Schedules-Direct ($20/yr). Once done you save/close then open the MP application itself and under TV you should be ready to go! OK, so in the Server app you had to point to WHERE you will be saving your timeshifted TV recordings as well as your scheduled recordings...

When you say no audio, you need to say more. How do you 'hear' your PC now? Do you play DVDs on your PC and how do you hear them? Playing back a TV show (live or recorded) will be the same... you need a video and audio codec and a means to hear whether it be the PC speakers, or SPDIF-out to your A/V receiver.

As far as a tv schedule I presently use Titan TV but don't know if that works with this program or not.

As far as sound, this card provides the audio via the PCI buss and not via a jumper to the sound card as did most older sound cards. The options I saw provided were to choose between line in or cd inputs neither of which are provided as outputs from this tuner card. There are no external audio outputs.

The only option that appears to other programs is HD Audio which is chosen but does not function although it does work for WinTV and all other applications such as messenger, Skype etc.

The audio INPUTS on the 1600 are to support its video capture capability (e.g. recording S-video and stereo audio from your camcorder, satellite system, or game console). This is of no interest getting the tuner to work. I'm still going back to your system, codecs, and connections. You have not updated your "My System" in your profile, nor told us how you are currently hearing your PC sounds, DVDs, and how you want the MP to be heard.

Do you have audio drivers loaded? Are you using 2 speakers connected to the PC, some "surround sound" system connected to your PC, or is your PC connected to a home theater sound system via RCA cables, SPDIF, or HDMI? Lots of configurations to address, let's focus on YOURS... do tell.

Often it's as simple as unchecking a mute switch in the sound mixer. Oh, and inside MP you have to select which output device the sound is to go - I pick default renderer, myself.

I think 1.38 is easier, it's a minor addition, judging by the lack of bugs, 1.39 is still a long way off. Ideally, the TuningParameters settings would be moved to MPE1, along with all the skins. Then any minor fixes could be updated quickly.

I currently have two Quatros running, one connect, one duo using OTA antennae, mostly UHF fringe area, mostly cat5 local network. Hauppauge card retired long ago. I have also retired very early SD units, the Quatros seem to work much better than the older units. Go to SD's support website and download and install the windows...

The reason I was thinking I needed more RAM is that TV now seems to be HiDef and so the files have grown. I edit the files before storing them, to reduce some size. It is finding that slower, I think. Or it could just be because I'm expecting more? The Baseboard manufacturer says ASUSTech Computer Inc; Baseboard product P7P55D-E...
