Can someone please confirm that teletext subtitles are/are not working in MP, and if they are, how do you enable them?

Yes teletext subtitles are still working (also with last nights test release) - im not sure how i enablet it . It might have been something with going to page 399 on teletext and back.

In Denmark we have 3 dvb-t channels - 2 of them send both teletext subtitles and the dvb-t bitmaps, while the last one only sends bitmaps.

Hmm...
I don't think teletext subs works...

If I go to teletext and go to teletext subtitle page (ie. 699 here in finland, canal+) it shows teletext subs but you can not put that teletext page (black screen) away without ending also subs.
Or is there some way to do it?

How did you get it working? Do you have to go to the teletext page everytime you switch channel?

I tried it with my cable tv and it didnt work. Im setting up a HTPC for my parents at their house tomorrow with DVB-T(in denmark as well) and it would be great if they could get subtitles on just a few of the channels.

np: MDB - It Will Come :D

At last Seveni and I have had some freetime to continue the filter development and now it's good time to gather some test DVB streams so that we don't have to play those Finnish streams over and over again (also it might help us to see how good shape the filter is).

    How to help:

    1. Find some application that can record selected PIDs from the DVB stream (TSReader full version atleast is able to do so).

    2. Find a channel that send DVB subtitles (in bitmap format as the filter doesn't support teletext subtitles)

    3. Record following PIDs (30MB should be enough):

    - video
    - audio
    - pcr
    - pmt
    - pat

    4. Rename file to "<country>-<channel>-<program_name>.ts"

    5. Make sure that VLC can play the recorded .ts file and it's able to show the subtitles
(subtitles are disabled by default in VLC)

    6. Upload the recording to FTP site:

    ftp.team-mediaportal.com
    login:tsdump@team-mediaportal.com
    pass: mpuser

Please note that there is no download or delete rights on that account.

VLC can be downloaded from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

    UPDATE (info from nate):

If you've got a DVB-T card then you can use the TS-Mux option in WebScheduler to record only the pids from a particular program (including the PAT, PMT and PCR).

DigitalWatch can also has the TS Mux recording option.

I dont have the full version of TSReader or know of other programs that can do what you ask, but Twinhan provides a TSCapture program that allows 'raw' capture of a transport stream for a given transponder. I could capture some TS streams and upload them if that is of interest?

As to teletext vs bitmap, how can you tell which one is used? That aside am i correct in the hope that the bitmap technique is the prefered method and used the most?

While i dont use DVB-T myself, its really starting to become popular here in Denmark and all the channels are transmitted with DVB subtitles, and it would be great if MP could show subtitles in all of them.

Btw, for anyone else interested i found this DVB subtitling FAQ:

Recording a full stream is not a good thing as the filter cannot decide what video & audio etc. should be used (same applies to MP).

Althou I could try to see if I can use TSReader in file mode to extract the wanted pids from the full stream.

Okay, i was under the impression that MediaPortal did the PID filtering when hardware filtering wasnt on, but then again i havent got a clue about DVB :)

My thought was also that you could use TSReader to extract the relevant data.

Of course, if TSReader is cheap i could just buy it?

TSReader costs $99, so it's not that cheap if you need it only once :)

But you can record the full transport stream and I can try to extract the needed PIDs from it.

Yikes! I nearly fell backwards when i saw that price on their website :)

I will record a few transport streams tomorrow. What should the duration of each sample be?
