Is it possible to have multiple idle grabber? (I have two digital tuner, so this would save time.)

And that the idle grabber uses any available digital card even, if i'm watching analog tv on another tuner?

    Hi gemx.

Finally I found some time to test the latest version... (ZDF is working fine now..by the way ;))
The epg grabber works much much better than before. Now it becomes really usable. Like dalmer said, it would be a 100% solution if the epg info of already grbbed content becomes updated from time to time...

Thank you very much for this. it really works great now.

I have a problem thought... Not sure if it is new or not... but it is nasty ;)
From time to time the epg grabber blocks the card. That means if you start timeshifting or recording, than this is done with the next card and not with the one that currently grabs the epg.
That means the idle epg grabber remains working even if a timeshift or recording comes up...
Not a big thing so far... but pretty nasty if there is no free card anymore :( I already missed a recording because of this.

I can try to provide somelogs if you like.

    Edit:
BTW: The problem the samo_yea & The_Stig mentioned seem to be a problem of the GetNowNext method BuisinessProvider class. It does not provide any data if there is no "next" information... even if the current information is available.

    Bye
    Lars

    Lars,

Logs would be excellent. This is a known problem with the idle grabber. I have seen it happen, but haven't been able to reproduce the problem reliably. If anyone figures out how to make it block consistantly, please let everyone know. It will be much easier to fix that way.

But in some satelites there is only one channel that transmits the EPG data to all muxes / frequencies and I think in that case the EPG data wont be complete.

In this case you would only select the channel that has all of the EPG data to grab the EPG in TVServer for that satellite - if you have grab while idle turned then TVServer would handle it fine.

BTW thanks for all of your work Gemx! The EPG is working very well now.

    cheers.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, so please forgive me if it is not.

In Australia we are currently in a state of change with our TV Channel broadcasting and hence EPG data. A particular TV station may have multiple channels and previously they would always broadcast the same content on the Standard Definition Channel as the High Definition channel. Hence the EPG data would be the same for both. Now, the TV stations have started broadcasting different content on the channels and have started providing an EPG using DVB-T. However, this EPG is still not very accurate so I, for example still prefer to use my external XMLTV sources (such as IceTV) where possible.

Unfortunately this means using a combination of XMLTV data for some TV channels and DVB-T EPG data for others as IceTV has not updated it's XMLTV data for some channels yet.

I have selected only some channels to download the EPG using the EPG grabber but unfortunately MediaPortal does not seem to display both together in the TVGuide on the client. I can show either the XMLTV imported data for some channels, or only the EPG grabbed data, but I can't find a way for the data to be combined and both to be displayed in the TVGuide.

Does anyone know if the process of using EPG grabber for some channels and XMLTV data for others currently work ?

Edit :  I just found it does work. It was that one pesky tick box that I hadn't seen in the XMLTV load - "delete all EPG data before load"

disable the dvb-epg-grabbing for the channels which get xmltv data

idle grabber locks the card. Is it possible to use idle grabber only when not watching TV (no active streams) and stop the grabbing when tv-server is starting a tv-stream on this particular dvb card.

Ähm, it SHOULD NOT lock the card and grab only while all cards aren't busy. That's why it's called IDLE grabber.
What do you mean by "it locks the card"?

When idle grabbing is active, and select a channel on this card, timeshifting is started on next card that can receive this channel. It would be better (if possible) to stop EPG grabbing and use first priority card.

Just tested this again with SVN from 10-1-2008. You can test this from tv server management console too..

Just to clarify things, can you record and watch 2 seperate channels (or record) that are not on the same mux.

ie if you have a recording going and enable the mini epg, are there different coloured words for various channels, that will tell you if a free card is available.

    Thanks
