Hi Aaron

You seem to have a working knowledge of Comskip/Mencoder with MP. Have you got a full description of how to make it work which you can post or email or send pm?

I wrote the comskip launcher plugin for TV Engine 2 and TV Engine 3. But I haven't written any comprehensive guides on running additional software to remove the commercials from the file.

If you point the comskip launcher program at a batch file that runs comskip and then runs mencoder you should be fine though.

However, I've never found a need to actually remove the commercials from the file because both MediaPortal and XBMC can skip the commercials by reading the .txt (mediaportal) or .edl file (xbmc).

The only reasons I could think of would be for playback on a program that doesn't support the skip files or for recording to DVD...

What part of the process are you having trouble with?

    Cheers,

I have run Comskip Plugin with MediaPortal (single user) which does its commercials marking files after the end of the program. I wanted to then watch Recorded TV on MP so that the Commercials were automatically skipped without any manual intervention, such as Skip on the remote. It is that second part which I have not been able to set up. I could do this with MCE in conjunction with DVRMSToolbox.

ok, no worries. At the moment there is no automatic skipping in MediaPortal (as you know). But I have the feature working 100% on my local development copy.

Once MP 0.2.3.0 Final is released I will put my code into SVN. It will then be available in SVN releases within approx. 24 hours.

It wont be long now, I promise.

    Cheers,

While waiting the final release, it would be great if you could provide patch here for those building from source ;)

Thanks for that. I was running everything I wanted with RC2 (not auto commercial skipping of course) then set up RC3. Well what a mess. Failed or ran like a dog on too many counts. I know feedback in the SVN area helps but I decided to unload and reload RC2 which I will do in the weekend. I will reload RC3 or rather 0.2.3.0 final when I have read that it is okay and then your auto-comm-skip.

    Hi

Do you have any "insider" knowledge to know when you will be able to release your code for the automatic skipping in MP?

I do, but I really can't say for sure. These things are flexible and might change.

But, I can give you an idea of the timeline we're looking at.

We're talking in terms of days, not weeks. So watch this space.

    Cheers,

Aaron, could there be an option to select on which channels comskiplauncher will run so we could leave channels without commercials out? btw is comskip support for timeshifting a planned feature?
