You don't need a TV card at all! You can simply use all other functionalities, without any limitations.
You will have a TV icon dough. As far as I know the only way to disable it is by editing a skin file (which won't be to complicated either I suspect).

I solved it myself, by modifying the host IP-address in the server table of the database,
