I'm not very good at visualization, so I took the 30 seconds to round out the corners and add a drop shadow. Here it is for comparison in case anyone else needs to see.

    I reckon this is the best one yet. I think it would be a good update to the project. But we should get a few more submissions and put it to a poll (or maybe just the main developers).

    Yes, this one looks great. But I would like to see the word MediaPortal with the gradient color (from darker yellow to brighter yellow), like it is on the top of the homepage. Perhaps that would even look better.

    @madrsh :

    Could you show us what it gives:

    -without the borders arround the text ?
    -with a gradient orange of the text?
    -with square corners and shadow?

    I think with square corners it will look sharper and cleaner.

    Great work !

    very sorry to sound bad, but you spend WAY too much time and brain cells on something that shows for a few secs (plus I know people that would happily disable it anyway)

    Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I must say I don't like the gradient text you want to add! :oops:

    I've tried makeing to text border a little smaller and removeing the "Welcome to MP" text. I think this makes the MediaPortal text stand out more. You can see what this look's like a the bottom of this post (it's the one on the top).

    The problem with round corners and dropshadow is, that it's easy to make in Photoshop, but pogramming a window useing transparency or shadow is much harder (correct me if I'm wrong)than just a square window. If one of the developers can do this "trick" I think we should totally break the square look and do something in the style of Photoshop http://www.guidebookgallery.org/pics/splashes/photoshop/8.0-cs.png

    :idea: With NLS's words in mind, here is a new thougth. Depending on how much time the developers want to spend on this project, we could make the splash screen load the skin background. Sounds hard, but I think it's rather simple. Just a .png image without background on top of a background picture loaded from the skin folder. Below you can see three examples of how this could look. It's the 3DMP, Project X and BlueTwo backgrounds that has been loaded. Maybe this feature is just too much work! - anyway, just a thought.

    NLS >> I don't feel that my programming skills (https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/SystemUtilities/MediaPortalPlaylistEditor/) are a contribute too MP, that's why I spent "WAY too much time and brain cells" in the area where I feel that I can contribute. :lol:

    A priori round corners can be added without too much hassle. The easiest way may consist in displaying your picture as-is (where edges are transparent) in a fully transparent window.

    we could make the splash screen load the skin background. Sounds hard, but I think it's rather simple.
    As a reminder, the splash screen is not purely decorative. In the background the MediaPortal.xml file is parsed and so we only know what skin we will use *afterwards*. A kind of catch 22 situation.
