One thought i have had would be to make and transparent splash screen that shows the version, SVN build and the loading status in plain text at the bottom of the screen this would then allow the desktop to become the main phocas point and would then allow peoples personal tastes and designs to show though in there installation

The main problem with a totally transparent window is font colour related. The font of the dynamic text has to be at least doubled with another colour (i.e inner black with outer white or vice versa) to be readable whatever the desktop background colour is.
Using standard Microsoft VCL components this is not easy to achieve.
My two cents.

I was thinking of Vista's AERO, but could not make such nice gfx so fast. Anyway, here is rough sketch... (1024x768) Also it's a little too big!

Where do I get your nice icons ? :D

something along those lines, i would much prefer a splash screen that ssuttle and out of the wat so that the focus can be whatever creations people have on there desktops also looking at that the bottom centre might be a better location

Here are my MP splash screens. I didn't add any drop shadow or border to the frame - yet.
The first one (the blue one) is made to fit Vanessa's beautiful 3DMP skin. (More to splashscreens come...)

This one is great, because it keeps the original mp logo spirit and takes advantage of the fantastic skin of vanessa. but i would prefer if there wasn't any border to the mediaportal text.

Right, so are there any skins that are higher resolutions? I've had a look through the list and there are MP Display++ skins but no information on resolution.

I avoid touching that system as long as it runs. Now that 2.4.1 seems to run again, I probably wait for the next issue.
