feature request: i like the idea of the renamer thing that puts films in order, but i don't like them being renamed! would it be possible to add a small feature so that the "sort by" field is renamed in this way, but the actual film title is left alone? that would organize the films the way i want them, but still leave the film titles intact (this is what i currently do manually so an automated method would be perfect).

I actually already had that on my todo list for the next version. No idea on when I'll be able to find the time to get it out, because I'm dealing with other stuff as well, but we're talking a few weeks at the most so no need to wait till hell freezes over ;)

    Hey Rochess

I noticed that Prometheus isn't renamed to Alien V: Prometheus, is this an oversight?

It is because the director kept pushing that it was not going to be a prequel and there is also going to be Prometheus II.

The entire universe of that series is weird as well due to the AVP movies.

But I'll go with whatever the majority vote on it is, the goal is that the least amount of users end up adding a custom rename entry to get it their way.

Yeah I guess it could be

    Alien V: AVP
    Alien VI: AVP2
    Alien VII: Prometheus

I personally wouldn't put prometheus at the start as it's not really really a prequel rather it's just set chronologically earlier.

In my personal opinion, I would keep them seperate as RoChess suggests.
    That's just my opinion anyway

Since you are rewriting the plugin I have an idea that you might like to consider

Basically the plugin keeps a record of which movies belong to a renaming group.
There is an option in configuration called custom sort order
If you select this option it brings a list of the grouped collections.
    eg.
    "Alien
    Bond
    Hannibal
    Last Summer
    Star Wars"

Then you click on the entry and can change the order / titles to a custom one. This would save users having to manually edit the xml file. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, because it adds complexity to the plugin, but would make it easier for some users to change the order. Although perhaps most users that would want to change the order/renaming would be adept enough to edit the xml file in the first place. Food for thought anyway.

Yeah, it's on my ToDo list to expand the abilities on that, but indeed it adds to the complexity and more time on C# code. Work has just gotten a hold of me lately, which is good news for my gadget fund (plan to upgrade HTPC and finally get a HDMI TV), but seriously cuts into my free time to work on IMDb+.

Maintaining the existing Rename database and fix any scraper-script issues is a few minutes here and there, but the C# part needs my focus for hours/days.

I'll get to it eventually though (I hope hehehe)

I seem to have a problem with my setup that IMDB is often used in preference to IMDB+ , this is for movies that I add to my movies folder that have not required any manual intervention to scrape. Is this normal behaviour do a need to enter the IMDB+ plugin to refresh newly added movies to get the to switch over to IMDB+ or should they automatically be scraped using IMDB+ by Moving Pictures?

There are a few situations in which MovingPictures decides your scraper-list order is wrong and it places the default imdb.com scraper back at the top. Fixing the MovPic code itself is not in my reach, but with the awesome help of damienh; he came up with a workaround to simply test again if IMDb+ scraper-script is still #1 upon entering of the IMDb+ plugin.

You can also verify the position of the IMDb+ scraper via the hidden menu option "IMDb+ Info..." and look for "Scraper Position: First"

So to answer your question, yes new movies should automatically be added, but it can happen where IMDb+ is pushed away from being your primary scraper and then things go wrong. The reshuffling of scraper-script positions does not happen often though, and usually is linked to like running an update on MovPic or making certain configuration changes. It is annoying for sure, but entering the IMDb+ plugin should at least give you a warning with instant dialog yes/no way to fix it. Movies that already then got imported with a wrong scraper-script, can be corrected via the hidden menu option "Force IMDb+..." which will allow you to select which scraper-script imports to convert.

Workarounds suck, but at least it has been made as easy as possible and all you really have to do is open IMDb+ plugin after you do a MovPic update.
