Ok, MPEI package updated, which now contains IMDb+ plugin v2.0.0.281 and it will make first-time installing a lot easier as it contains the current v4.3.8 IMDb+ scraper-script and the current v1.3.5 default rename database. It includes all the language files to explain all the IMDb+ scraper-script options that the IMDb+ plugin allows you to adjust.

Since the MediaInfo DLL can cause many problems if you have an older version and try to import new media files, the MPEI package will now update your DLL. This is an optional update that you can disable when you install the MPEI package via the "MediaPortal Extension Installer" shortcut on your desktop. However if you use the MPEI Extensions GUI plugin, then you do not get to see this checkbox, so it will always update your DLL then. It is recommended to update this file as you might otherwise not realize what is causing problems during import, but keep this in mind when you experience problems.

MediaPortal v1.2.3 comes with MediaInfo v0.7.54 now, but they have already moved on to v0.7.56, which is the version that the IMDb+ MPEI package installs.

Now I really need to overhaul the wiki pages to reflect all the new changes, but that is always easier said that done

Whenever financially possible I contribute to the open source solutions that I enjoy, or donate my time in the hope of improving the experience for everybody else. The latter being the case for MediaPortal. Still, I've been blown away by the popularity growth that the IMDb+ plugin has gone through. What started out as a small personal project to improve things the way I wanted them for myself has turned into something much bigger that is now being enjoyed (or as some would say; endured ) by more then 15,000 users.

This growth is due to all the new languages and options supported, many of which I'll never use myself, but was happy to add them for others. Of course the downside of this is that IMDb+ has grown quite complex, for as small of a project as it is, and adding new features takes more and more time. Even though my wife enjoys the results of everything (she loves her reality-TV), she is also constantly complaining that I spent way too much of my time on MediaPortal and that I should be working instead .

So today unbeknownst to her I've created a PayPal donation button that ties directly into her personal PayPal account to see if I can prove her wrong:

If it turns out to be a smashing success by the generosity of the more fortunate amongst you, I will donate a portion back to the MediaPortal team, the Moving-Pictures plugin developers (without which IMDb+ would not exist) and the lead developer of the MP-TVSeries plugin who's help was instrumental to get the IMDb+ plugin functional.

And if times are tough (as they are for many), perhaps try to see if you can pay it forward by donating a little bit of your time by helping out i.e forum assistance, documentations, translations, etc. or as simple as testing and reporting problems so that they can be fixed, or just promote MediaPortal to others (y)

feature request: i like the idea of the renamer thing that puts films in order, but i don't like them being renamed! would it be possible to add a small feature so that the "sort by" field is renamed in this way, but the actual film title is left alone? that would organize the films the way i want them, but still leave the film titles intact (this is what i currently do manually so an automated method would be perfect).
