To have this in the viewmode switcher would be awesome. For now I only use this one.

I guess it doesn't work as well as it could with avi movies. In my case, it always strech all movies, it doesn't matter if they are 4:3, 16:9, 1.79:1, 1.85:1... it always fills the screen, so if you see films, you see people with some enlargement. Maybe it works well with TV, cause there's only two aspect ratios on it.

This zoom mode doesn't recognize what input you got, its meant to be used on 4:3 content only. To get auto-switching you need the view-mode switcher plugin.

So then... what´s the difference between this aspecto ratio and the strecht one included in MP?

As mentioned by Darre, this zoom mode assumes the source aspect ratio is 4:3, it shouldn't be used for non 4:3 content.

The difference between stretch and this one, is this one stretches the side more than the middle, so the middle area loses proportion much less.

Thanks a lot both of you! Really usefull your help indeed. Just a question more... Is there any way of make a rule so when the pciture is 4:33, then this aspect ratio is aplied, but if it's is not, aply normal aspect ratio by example?

(i suppose i'm asking for too much, sorry...) ;-)

    Hi ol263.

I really like your new zoom mode. Maybe I have an idea to make the things a bit easier for the people (and your self)
Easier as the implementation of a complete new zoom mode (which requires changes to many file or even plugins like the viewmodeswitcher) would be the replacement of an existing zoom mode.
I personally have changed your patch to replace the "Pan&Scan"-mode which is not interesting for a user with a 16:9 screen.

    Bye

So lkuech will you include this in a new svn? Or are you (or the author) going to post a patch that does just that? would be great because then its easy to implent in viewmode switcher without changing that plugin.

That's just what ViewModeSwitcher does, see previous 2 replies.

That would be indeed much easier, requiring changes to only 2 or 3 files.

To extend on that some more I might do:
    - Change the Pan&Scan parameters depending on the screen dimensions: If it's 4:3, use classic pan&scan, if it's 16:9 use this mode.
    - Change the AR name in the strings.xml file, instead of calling it "Pan&Scan" or "Smart 4:3->16:9", just call it "Smart", which would represent both cases.

OK, i've done the above, see the original post for details.

I assume it should work with ViewModeSwitcher, though I haven't tried.

Please note what I wrote there about overwriting the previous version with the new one. Don't! Restore the official binaries first and then install the new version.
