The problem we're, or at least some of us, are having isn't that they are turned off and on, but they go in to a sort of sleep, or limbo, mode. In Dish's case you get a little message on the screen that says press select to view TV, doing so wakes it back up. It's basically a low power screen saver.

The problem is passing channel-change commands on to the blaster doesn't wake it, only the select key. Stupid design but what can you do, apparently a few other STB's are the same way.

Im not sure if the IR blaster passed through commands, but there are options to send the select command.

I never turn my DirecTV STBs off since they consume about the same amount of current when "off" and take a long time to start back up.

Good point, you just saved me some time figuring that out :)

Anyone know if the current bug with the 3-07-09svn is on anyone's radar? I don't see it listed on Mantis anywhere.

I have the same issue as Ixian with receiver standby. The problem is that the HD-PVR BlastCfg utility will not learn the Select or Power On commands. Dish (in my case BellTV) receivers dutifully go into standby mode when the guide is updated at about 3AM. There is currently no way to stop this and no way to turn the receiver back on with the HD-PVR blaster. One workaround is to program the receiver to autotune each program that is set to record with MediaPortal. That's a royal PITA and should not be necessary, except for the shortcomings of the HD-PVR and E* receivers. Anyway, this is a bit OT since it's not really a MediaPortal issue.

I'm thinking about getting one of these boxes to record the HD cable channel that I can't get with my (2) 2250 TV cards. I have a few questions about how well it integrates into Mediaportal.

Does Mediaportal see it as another tuner?
Can I add the channels it would give me to the program guide and set them to record from there?
Can you set the tuner priority to use this tuner only for certain channels?

Any other bugs about how it works?

    Vindii,
I would ping Chesh, he has just went through a long process and has written up instructions on how to add an HDPVR with other tuners. I think he has links to it earlier in this thread...

    Wile E.

I think I found his post about the set-up. I sounds like the HD_PVR shows up in mediaportal as a normal tv tuner?

Has it been pretty reliable? Does it work good most of the time or is it still alittle buggy?

Anyone tried the 3-22 svn yet with the HDPVR? I'm getting a freeze as soon as the channel comes up, but it stays frozen, unlike the last build.

It could be a codec issue, I can't tell. I run Graphedit and no matter what I set codecs to in MP Arcsoft is always used, it's annoying.

Same problem I'm having with the 12/22 build ixian. No matter what I set the codecs to, Arcsoft always takes over. If you find the answer to why this is, please post it!!

I installed the 3/22 build and just quickly looked at the TVServer config. I had the 3 cards usual in the list but there was nothing to expand in the list (usually we have one of the 2 hd-pvr related devices expandable)
As I was only going to watch a quick movie, I didn't try and troubleshoot (GF doens't really appreciate me troubleshooting when waiting for me to start the movie..)

I'll check again tonight to see if I can at least have the HD-PVR load properly

I think I got the Arcsoft thing nailed down - apparently it's a problem TMT users in general having been bitching about for months, i.e. once you install it Arcsoft Codecs take over your system. BUT only some versions of TMT, including, of course, the one that ships with the HDPVR. Highly annoying to track this down.

Anyway, apparently by using something like RadLight Filter Manager you can manually set the Directshow merits for Arcsoft to a lower value. It's tricky, because if you look at them they seem to be set to 0600, which is the default merit, but that is apparently what's bugged, because you actually have to bump them down, lower than your other installed codecs. After that, reboot and the Arcsoft forum users report the issue is fixed....at least until TMT gets patched/upgraded, and you get to do it again.

This whole thing is really, really stupid and probably the root cause of many issues I've been having since I got my HDPVR. I suspect some combination of the Arcsoft codec version and my video driver version(s) have been giving me grief for a month, but every time I thought I was testing a different codec I got the same issue. Turns out it's been using Arcsoft the whole time no matter what I set it to inside MP's config (or MPC-HT/Zoomplayer for that matter - it over-rides those too!).

    I'll try it tonight.

I got my (single) HDPVR to show up, expand, etc, and it appears at first I can do manual time-shifting, although I noticed doing a manual record that it produces a .ts file that is zero bytes in size, so I'm not sure what's up there.

Hopefully I will get my stupid Arcsoft codec issue resolved tonight and then I can really test it.
