I had to upgrade one of my clients to a PCIe system because it was AGP and had major issues playing anything from the HD-PVR. I wouldn't waste time/money on AGP.

I'm gonna help you out here Ajp:

    Gigabyte 780G motherboard: $79 w/$10 rebate: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-US2H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

    AMD 5050e CPU w/Heatsink: $59: Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

    PNY DDR2 memory, 2gb (good brand): $25: Newegg.com - PNY OPTIMA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Total cost with rebate: $153. Put it another way, that's $100 less than your HDPVR cost you :)

Cost of AGP 3850 that in all likelihood still won't work for you: $85 (cheapest one that isn't open box).

The smart money here is to spend a little more and actually get what will work for what you need. It's still not cutting edge by a long shot but it's a far sight better than what you have now. It'll play all HD video, it'll handle your HDPVR, it'll play the games you have now and some you don't, and if you want to upgrade it later you can do that too.

If the cost still bugs you look at it this way: Right now, that Pentium 4 and 1950 AGP card are probably drawing over twice the power load that the 5050e (45w) and 780g motherboard do. You'll probably save most of the difference on your power bill over a year.

AGP?? Don't know if you mentioned that before my post or not. I'm surprised you can still buy an AGP card!
I agree with Ixian, for little more money you'll get all the HD you need on a platform that will allow you to upgrade in the future.

So I received the USB-UIRT I bought as per Ixian's suggestion, and it's great!
I was blasting successfully in no time. I installed IR Server Suite and disabled all the iMon crap that I had.
Now my system is a whole lot better. I'm also using Garry's build and TV starts in 2 seconds!
I still have a few things that I would like to see get resolved.

    - I still get stuttering when changing channels. I even setup ramdisk and it might have helped but the problem is still there. A quick pause/play fixes it but would rather it just work.
    - I'm also not used to the guide. It doesn't jump to the bottom when you press up at the top. There's no page down (slightly corrected by creating channel groups).
    - Need to write a fix to send the select button once or twice a day. Would like to have a simple windows service do that. If I really get bored and have some time on my hands I might just write one (unlikely though).

Also for the HD-PVR not being stable and needing a power-cycle every once in a while I though of a cheap solution. I have one of those electrical outlet timers laying around. I can use that and turn the power off for 1 minute everyday at like 4am (I don't plan on recording porn :p) I'll have to experiment with that since I think that the TVService will most likely fail after a power-cycle.

I gotta thank Ixian for insisting that the USB-UIRT is the way to go.:D
My system is a whole lot better now that I have it and I am much closer to using the Media-PC for everything, no more switching back to the STB :)

Stuttering, etc, I can recommend two things:

First, have you tried the (new in 1.01) dynamic refesh rate setting? It's in the MP config, under general, last sub menu. Assuming you are playing this on a TV that can support different refresh rates, and your video card can output them (most newer stuff does, and most LCD's/Plasma's/Projectors will), MP will sync the refresh of your card/display to something that matches the frame rate of the video you are playing. This can result in noticably smoother videos for all your content. In my case, it also keeps the video in TV from being all jittery.

You can also try disabling RSTP and accessing recordings/timeshift buffer via file sharing, it's documented in the forums, do a search for disable RSTP.

Or, you can also take the next step like I did and use 4 the Record - I donated, and have access to the 1.4 beta, which is the one to use with 1.01 right now. In addition to being (I feel) an all around better TV client solution, it has the option in the client to use either RSTP streaming or sharing - no messing with config files, easy to enable/disable. I also found it to be a better (as in, less buggy) client, period - channel changes are even faster with it then MP. Finally, the main reason people use it - actually, two main reasons - one, it has a much better search function for upcoming programs (very Tivo like, down to suggestions and season passes) and two, it has probably the best Web interface I have ever seen. Seriously, it's better than the one DirectTV/Tivo provides. You can even use it on an iPhone which came in handy for me last week when I forgot to schedule 30 Rock and I was on the way to dinner.

The way it works is, it completely replaces the TV client, and adds on to (not replace) the TV server portion. In fact, it has a plugin for the TV server. So it's easy to try out and easy to remove if you don't like it.

It does have a couple downsides. On the minor front, it's confusing to set up at first - it has it's own database, and you have to import TV channels and guide data from the server and map them to 4TR. There's a lot of little stuff like that that took me a couple days to wrap my head around, but once it's set up it's set and forget.

More serious, right now, if you only have one tuner/capture device, and you are watching a channel, and you press record to record the program while you watch it, the video/audio will stop - the recording will fire off without missing a bit, but it doesn't auto-transfer you over to the recording in progress. You have to go back in the guide and select the channel again to watch it while you record, unlike the normal MP client, which smoothly transitions over. It's not that big a pain but it IS a little "wife unfriendly" at first. They are working on fixing this in the next version. If you have more than one tuner/capture device (like I will soon, with two HDPVR's) then this isn't a problem as it will use the unused tuner to record - assuming, of course, you aren't already recording something on it. It also isn't a problem with multiplex-capable DVB-C tuners but I believe you are in the US like me so that doesn't apply.

Hopefully they improve this in the near future.

Finally, as for the auto-send Select idea, which I assume is because you have the same problem as me - Dish receivers going to that stupid screensaver after every am update - I finally gave in and set up a manual tune-recording at 4:01am, after the guide updates, in my Dish Receiver. Look under manual timers and pick a random channel. That at least will insure that regular tuner commands fire off on schedule - I've already had one recording set for 6am that ended up being a 2 hour recording of the screen saver, and one of those was enough :)

    New system!

Okay all... I have a new system that looks a lot like what Ixian has recommended ;-) ... well, exactly like it - fit my budget and performance needs.

    :D

Now, on to the (ugh) problems...

When I turn on the TV from the My TV page (which takes about 10 seconds to respond after I click) the HDPVR goes into record mode (red light on) and I receive a MP dialog that displays the following text:

    Unable to play: live1-0.ts.tsbuffer

    Audio Codec:

The dialog has an OK button only and no other information. I have attached clean logs (only this event logged) for both MP and TS. There is one error to do with the VR9. I Googled the error and found this but it's not much help to me (VMR9: Error 80040273 (Cannot revoke access for offline filters ) - microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video | Google Groups).

Just to recap what I did since clean install:

TME works great at 1080i; excellent video and audio quality. I installed MP1.0.1 in a single seat configuration. I set up TV server with one (test) channel. I set the crossbar parameters for the channel to YRYBY#1/Automatic. I can preview the stream just fine (audio and video) using the Preview button on TV Channels. I can timeshift and record from the Manual Control page. Also, if I run MP in window mode and go to the timeshift buffer directory I can see the timeshift buffer file (*.ts) and I can even play that file using VLC. I also tried clean PC reboots and restarts of the HDPVR.

Any clues about what's going on. I have not tried Garry's TvLibrary yet...

    Thanks for all the help.
    -Andy

Update: I tried the posted TvLibrary.dll and I get the same result as described above; in about 3 seconds rather than 10 seconds...

Try it first with 2 channel audio in to the HDPVR if you aren't already.

Make sure you are using the Arcsoft Audio and Video codecs in TV Client configuration. Not Arcsoft Audio HD, just regular Arcsoft Audio.

For the 10 second wait for the PMT - search back a bit for WileE's 1.01 tvlibrary.dll. That enables you to reduces the wait. Use that dll and then go in to TV Server config, general settings, and set wait for PMT to something like 2 seconds. It will now start almost instantly.

    Need Help

I was waiting for the MP 1.0.1 to become available to switch over from GB-PVR. Now, I have fresh installed XP3 and installed all the required binaries. I installed the stock MP 1.0.1 binaries.

    Currently, I have two issues:

    1) I am using SD for EPG and the channel line shows up fine in the TV server config dialog, and I mapped the channels fine. I can start/stop timeshift manually for all of the channels fine. But, for some reason, I am not able to see the channels/programs from the MP TV guide screen. It does not show a single channel.

    2) From the TV server configuration, the manual timeshift works fine. But, when I go to My Tv in MP, I get "No tuners found" error. This seems bizarre as the manual timeshift works fine.

I am using MCE for blasting, just in case it has something to do with this. I have 780G for GPU.

I have also installed the ForTheRecord plugin, but I have disabled the plugin and the services too. So, I am not sure if that has anything to do with this.

I went through a lot of posts, but it seems no one else has seen this issue. I hope it is a simple one :). Please advise me on how to resolve this.

Also, how can I upload the logs? I didnt see any button when I was posting this.

    Thanks a lot in advance.
