Thank you for your quick reponse, however I did try that. I went to the temp directory and ran the deploy tool that was there directly from that directory. The same thing happened. Albeit I didn't run it from the command line, I just opened it from windows explorer.

As it happens, I tried to perform the same task on a different machine that was still running IE 6 instead of IE 8 (same internet connection though). Everything worked, and I just downloaded the necessary deploy files and moved to the computer that was having the problem. SO now I am up and running. However, is it possible that there was an issue with IE 8 that hasn't been addressed?

I see. Well as I said it is up and running and I am going through the configuration process now. And the same error appeared again.

WHen I was trying to setup the weather section and went to choose a City. I typed in Orlando and hit search and got the following error.

Failed to perform city search, make sure you are connected to the internet.

I am creating an exception in the firewall for the MediaProtal and also just truning off the firewall, successivley to see if that helps this situation. The firewall didn't affect the problem with installation at all (I tried that first).

No dice. Turning off the firewall didn't work. I didn't create an exception because I wasn't sure if I would have to create one for the config program and the portal program as well.

Any ideas?

OK so i am trying to install MP 1.0, I uninstalled windows and started from scratch and still having the

Download of settings file failed.
Please Review your Internet Explorer configuration.
Corrupted config file, if found, will now be deleted.

problem, The only thing i've installed other than drivers is the codex suggested in the guide and .Net 1.1 and 3.5.
Is there anything else i can do to get MP 1.0 installed back on this machine. I tried the suggestions in this thread without success.

This worked, installing Windows updates & Internet Explorer 8 now with fingers crossed.

Windows XP SP3 brand new, IE8, all updated and working, no proxies.

Disabling firewall or not:

1. MediaPortal 1.0.2 (downloaded today 2010-02-09):

a) "No Internet Connection found! To continue the installation..."

b) Continuing the installation, I take "Unhandled exception has ocurred..."

DETAILS (only begining):

"ee the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

2. Deploy Tool:

Running from %TEMP or not...

Installation seems ok, although first time I had problemas then I made a full uninstall before trying to install it again...

But when I click on the shortcuts (MediaPortal or MediaPortal Configuration), I get "The MediaPortal found a problem and needs to be closed."

What should I do?

After Tv Movie EPG Import++ is unrepairable, I tried Tv Movie EPG Import. Unfortunately, the import gets stuck here. Does anyone have an idea why this could be, or does it still work for anyone at all?

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck? Preferable with as much disabled as possible also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything) maybe other programs competing for resouces?

I compliment you on the thoroughness of your investigations. (y) Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas what the problem might be. :( Perhaps someone else will post with some suggestions. -- from CyberSimian in the UK
