Any idea whether you can implement options to control the transcoding settings so the file sizes can be reduced so that streaming via 3g/edge is possible?

Suggestion: Would it be possible for your app to also interface with ForTheRecord? Because at the moment I am using this, since the shceduling is far superior to that of regular MP. BUt now all my "normal" recordings are not in the regular MP database, therefor doesn't show up in iPiMP. ANy chance of this ever happening?

dvdfreak has contacted me already asking for this - and yes i'll look at a 4TheRecord interface once I get time :)

I have installed the plugin without any problems and really look forward to the Remote control feature you have planned. Is there any idea of when this will be available?

Me too!! - My aim is to get a good working version running for TV server functions then start looking at the client stuff. So it'll probably be a number of weeks yet - dev is slow 'cos I'm not a programmer by trade.

Yes - I'll be looking at this shortly - one way this may go is to use VLC to transcode at different bitrates much like Big_Kev's interface. So maybe have 4 watch options:

1. Watch transcoded file (if it's available)
2. Watch over wifi
3. Watch over 3G
4. Watch over Edge

1 will stream the iPiMPTranscoded file via the iPiMP webserver
2-4 will stream via VLC - this'll need another port to stream over

Sound OK? or is this overkill?

Well, I think the perfect solution would be to just transcode all files as playback are requested, since transcoding all recordings is storage-consuming and most of them I would never watch on my iPhone anyway.
Also, since the transcoding are only done when needed (in the perfect scenario) you should be able to choose transcoding options from the client GUI, much like you suggest in options 2-4. This way we could choose if we wanted to wait for the buffering to get the great quality, or just watch a lower-res version and get the streaming done realtime.
Also, if your plugin can handle switching the ports, I don't mind having to portforward 50 ports from my router - I honestly don't care. But if we have to match these ports to a recording, everytime we play a file (like Big_Kev's webinterface when playing through VLC) then it gets a bit tedious.

So, if it is not too much work, then it would be great to be able to choose different playback qualities. If I want to show-off this to my friends, I want to show the top-quality but if I am just watching an episode of South Park I don't care if the resolution is a little lower than the recording :)

Yeah, and that is way cool! :D Given the fact that For The Record uses a service-oriented architecture it should normally (hopefully ;)) be very easy to support it.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet...but wouldn't it be cool if Cheezey and Big Kev got together and combined both servers into one awesome package? This would mean less resource usage on the server as well as having "best of both worlds".

Must say, I kinda agree here ;)
But anyway great work so far, thank you. Really looking forward where this is going!

No that would sound fine, having as much control as possible is always nice as you never know how much signal you may have or whether wifi is available.

Was my first thought then I saw the thread: If it would support 4TR it would be sooo cool :-D
Thanks for take this to your todo-list, Cheezey :D

Also can't wait for the music-frontend. Still need some kind of remote to play musik without TV turned on. This could be the way to go for me :)

If it will not be possible to add the possiblity for choosing different transcoding options, on the client for a long time due to it taking alot of coding work, I would be happy if it could be possible to choose the transcoding setting in the configuration.
At the moment I have a rather low upload speed, which makes it hard for me to watch the streamed video. If I could change the transcoding options to a lower quality, I could get some good use out of the plugin.
Of course, being able to select the quality on the client is the dream-scenario, but the above would be great until this is possible.

Apache sending SYN to port 31456

This is an awesome plug-in for MP thanks for all your work.

Can anyone help me out with this little issue?

I noticed that the default.aspx page is taking ages to load. Longer than I though it should. It is waiting around 30 seconds before data is transferred to the iPhone.

I ran a network analyser and found that Apache (as installed with the plug-in) is trying to make an IP connection out to a server X on the net to port 31456. It sends 6 SYN packets but seemingly server X is not listening on that port as no reply is sent.

I think port 31456 is used for IRC.

Server X is the DNS server that my system uses, BUT is not the DNS server allocated by DHCP. I.e. my computers use my router as a DNS server, that in-turn uses server X. The only way I can think that my MP machine would know about server X was if it was to perform an NSLookup type operation.

Seemingly after these connection attempts have timed out, my page loads on my iPhone, and all is well until the next request.

Anyone have any idea what’s going on? Why would Apache behave like this?
