To transcode recordings on the fly you'de need VLC as FFMPEG doesn't stream. So has anyone got VLC streaming any kind of input file and the stream watchable on the iPhone?

I have tried this:

vlc E:\TV\Friends\Season1\Friends.S01E24.DVDrip.XviD-SAiNTS.avi --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=512,canvas-height=272,width=480,acodec=mp4a,ab=96,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=mp4,dst=:81}}

I've tried a number of options but keep getting this..

I tried using Big_Kevs interface to transcode a live tv-stream to iPhone-format (there's a preset in VLC for iPhone) and then accesing the stream from the iPhone, but I got the same error as you. It's been a while since I tried it though, but don't think it's changed.
At that time i thought it might be something about the way I tried to open the file. I just typed in the IP adrress in Safari in the hope that it would then just magically start playing the stream in the iPhone movie player - don't think I need to say that it didn't work :p

Setting up the stream is no problem, the problem arise when I tried to acces this stream from the iPhone. I never did any real testing on it though, since I didn't have the time.

does this work with the inbuild TV Engine? I dont use the TV server just that computer as a standalone server using the inbuild TV Engine.. when I installed I get alot of errors about TV Server..

so I take it this is just designed for use with the TV Server?

for me it still doesn't work.

As soon as I press the login-button, the httpd-process uses 100%CPU

I have tried the Test.aspx. It works.

Version 2.1.0 should be out this weekend with a number of changes so if you can wait for that and retry.

Also - have you installed iPiMP on your tvserver or on another machine?

lol - no problem - can you make it an iPhone :) what with the current economic crisis my iPhone plans have had to go on hold :(

Also - can you give some feedback on bitrate settings which work through 3G? The first version of the transcode plugin used 256/128, with this version I've tried at 192/64 which looks OK but I obviously can't try it over 3G. I can then put some recommended settings on the wiki.

Enjoy!

I get .net errors when trying to use the transcode client. Am just gonna pay a visit to windows update to see if there's any updates for .net.
