I was just about to say it :)

    TVmecken:
Can you translate this for me?
En socket-åtgärd försökte utföras på en oåtkomlig värd

It seems that there is a problem opening a TCP socket on the clients. With the error message translated I might be able to figure out why.

The IR Server is an application, not a service (yet) so you will only see it in task manager and you should see an icon in the system tray.

I've only just moved over to TCP comms instead of Named Pipes, so I expect there will be some bugs. Hopefully I'll get them sort out really quickly and we can have you up and running :)

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Cheers,

I have find the problem with your plugin and IRTrans

If the IRTrans server is runnig and I try to start your server it doesn't.

If I close the IRTrans server and then I start your server it runs but the result is the error of my previous post

If I close the IRTrans server , start your server, and then start IRTrans server, both servers work, and your plugin is able to learn comands.

    Thanks for your quick answer.

    Regards

    Hi Aaron,

I have missed your plugin till now. Just wanted to give it a try with my IRTrans receiver even though there's the MP built-in support for it. But I have the same problem as GBA.

With some twiddling like he described I can get it working but it's kind of unusable for now. The interesting thing is that your IRServer doesn't even write a log file when not starting up correctly...
If you need any infos I would be glad to help out.

    Thanks Aaron,
The sentence is as you suspected "A socket-attempt tried to be applied to an un-available host". Well, not sure if this translation is exactly as the english original, but I think you get the idea...

You are so fast in responding, its amazing.
    Thanks a lot.

    Patric:

I'm looking into it right now.

    TVmecken:

Is your computer on a LAN?
Connected to a router of some sort?
Have you disabled any Network related windows services?
    Are you running a firewall?

It seems to me that the clients are unable to connect to the server, but I don't know why.

Could you try telling the clients the actual IP address of the server? If it's the same machine try 127.0.0.1 and localhost.

    Thankyou.

    Hi Aaron,

I answer by telling that I just connected successfully from another computer on my LAN with the virtual remote...?

After that connection I try to start the translator on my HTPC where the IR Server is running, and it still fails with the same communication failure message...

Any hints to narrow down the problem?
    Thanks

    Hmm this is quite strange.

I will need to know the following:

Have you disabled any Network related windows services?

Are you running a firewall? <--- Windows built in firewall or a third party firewall? If you are, try temporarily disabling it.

Please try giving the clients 127.0.0.1 and localhost for the server location and see if that works. These addresses should bypass any lookup function that might be causing the problem.

    Thanks,

    Communication failure

Easily fixed by your advice! Thanks!

Tried the simplest first so I just changed the server name to "Localhost" rather than given name, that did the trick!

Thanks a lot, now I can continue, very good indeed!

BtW, I am using the Windows firewall and exempted IR server (and translator), did not change anything there.

Maybe you already plan for it, but anyway, for the more final release two minor improvements may help newbies (like me..).

    1. The population of server names in the drop down list seems OK, but it should always create an additional option of "Localhost".
    2. The initiating of XML files seems to take place one step late. If possible the creation of the first XML files should move from respective application to the installation. This is really a minor thing I know...but it gives a severe error (and I admit it stopped me for a while).

Thanks again for your support Aaron, your outstanding support is one of the most important reason to use your excellent IR server Suite!

    lfic:
I've found some info on the internet that says the Pioneer plasmas use the NEC1 remote protocol. I'll try to find an NEC protocol remote control and test it. There is either a bug in my protocol decoding routine or your plasma is using a double-code, which if what I've read is true could be about to cause me some serious headaches :)

I'll have to get back to you on this...

    Cheers,

The IR Server seems to stop responding on my system after a day or so. The system try icon is still present but my remote (MCE) no longer functions. If I restart IR Server all is fine. IT log and Windows Event Viewer show no error.

Not sure how I can go about diagnosing this.
